What is the difference between the Super Cub S RTF with SAFE and the Super Cub DSM RTF? I know one is red and one is blue, but why the $30 difference in price at Hobby Zone? Anyone know the difference? I am done with the Champ and ready to take on the Super Cub.

The New S version has the new SAFE- ESC- RX unit in it which allows a beginner to have Three Modes of operation SAFE or Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope
Beginners Mode Intermediate Mode Expert Mode
It also has a panic button that allows one when pressed and held to automatically level the plane should you get in a unwanted situation The New S version also comes with a new TX that has that 3 position switch on it
It allows one to teach themselfs to fly without assistance. as the SAFE system is the teacher
In beginners Mode it allows only a set control movement as a beginner will not over control the plane as that is the greatest issue with New Pilots that Beginner Mode allows the control surfaces to only move to a point which only allows the plane to turn or rise or descend at a set rate and has self leveling when you let go of the control sticks One needs a large area to fly in that Mode.
In Intermediate Mode it allows the control surfaces to be moved further allowing the Pilot to have a greater climb or descent rate and allows the turning surfaces to make a tighter turn , more bank angle and a smaller turning radius. And still has self leveling when you let go of the controls sticks
Expert Mode eliminates any constraints to the controls. It puts the pilot in complete command without restrictions and it has No self leveling at all
The Panic button works in every Mode, in case you get disoriented or in trouble and no matter what attitude the plane is in, if you press and hold the panic Button the plane will self level itself and it does so very quickly.
It also has AS3X Gyro Stabilizer that helps the control surfaces to compensate for wind for instance...they will subtly move the control surfaces to keep the plane level and not be buffeted around as bad.
The Older DSM version comes with an ACT system, which was suppose to be Anti-Crash-Technology...but was quickly learned it did not work and in fact it became ACT-Automatic Crash technology...so it had to be unhooked before you flew the plane or it would cause a crash It comes with the older DX4 with only a 2 position switch for the Act System on and off. The ACT has a sensor on top and bottom, it was suppose to sense the sky and ground to keep the plane oriented and stop one from crashing, however the sensors did not read correctly and most times it would sense the ground or sky wrong and would cause the plane to go one way or the other, resulting in a crash....If the ground was darker or lighter affected it and so did the sky, thus causing it to crash sensing the ground was the sky or the sky was the ground. We all learned to Unhook it to stay safe.
Other than that the plane has the same Motor and parts
BUT the SAFE System is a far greater than the old Act system
They are placing that SAFE Technology in many planes and Heli's now.
I bought a SAFE Unit and installed it in my older Super Cub to see what it would do, and it works fine
It has to be secured or it will cause the plane to do some fluctuating due to the AS3X gyro stabilizer trying to keep it stable in flight.
Hope that helps explain the differences
And in reality the SAFE Unit is superior to the old ESC-RX control in the DSM version and between it and the newer radio that 30 dollar difference is Cheap
and btw Never be done with the CHAMP
I own three of them and fly it on every outing and even fly one at night.... best little plane they ever made It's a reality Sim.
It can't be beat for " plane " simple Fun.
