While I'm waiting for the wind to die down, which where I live could be quite a while, for my for my first flight, I've been browsing this forum which is very interesting. There are three things which despite trying I can't find the answers to.
1. What does 'ESC' stand for and what exactly is it?
2. What is the 'Firewall'?
3. Is it just me or is the battery very difficult to fit into the space available. I can just squash it in but have to pull it out by the wires which doesn't seem a good idea.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Electronic Speed Control. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_speed_controlIn the Cub the ESC is paired with the RX (receiver) as a single unit which I think is bad form. Firewall - barrier between the motor and the passenger. In this case the motor is mounted to it. Battery Box.....sucks. Yes, it is very tight, stupidly tight. It was designed a LONG time ago for a 6-cell sub-C NiMh battery and never improved. Do some creative carving to make space, many folks do this. Pulling on the wires is NOT a good idea. You can even potentially cause a fire if you make a short. A shorted lipo that burns is a VERY VERY bad thing. Make a sling with a tab on it out of tape for a pull aide.

Thanks very much flydiver :-) Should have time could you explain why it's bad form and what is the alternative?

It is very easy to find a wealth of warnings about mishandling Li-po batteries. For example, I found this in 10 seconds on this board! supercubclub.proboards.com/thread/3924/heed-lipo-warningsYou will also find much information about cutting out the battery box to accommodate the Li-po battery, as flydiver suggests. Hobbyzone persist in supplying the original box, which is too small for the Li-po.

ESC+RX is a proprietary $50 unit. The ESC isn't all that good. If you burn it out (not uncommon) you can't simply replace the ESC part for like $20, you have to buy the whole unit or buy 2 new separate units. I dislike proprietary parts....no, I hate proprietary parts.

Why I still fly the Cub with the factory set up and TX ( other than a few Mods)that came with it and have not changed over to my Tactic system. Just figured will fly it until I have to change one or the other....then I will simply get rid of that expensive mess and just buy a ESC and use one of my many Tactic Receivers and go from there.

Fly you have a way with words..straight and to the point.
