Think fixing the SC is hard? Banging my head at the moment with this.....  This is the P51 I bought as part of the 'spares and repairs' lot.  The foam is about 2mm thick, and is creased to bits. The internal frame is also smashed in part, and to make matters worse, its had a couple of crappy repairs done with some sort of solid glue ( not epoxy).  I'll update this as I try to repair it..... |

Not really. 4 planes for $35.00, 2 of which (PZ spitfire and Exceed RC Pitts S2A), are pretty much airworthy (although the spitty does need some cosmetic work). The mustang is the only one with serious damage, and I'm hoping to get that flight worthy, if not exactly pretty. |

I thought that you got a good deal when you first posted about this and still do. I was rather proud of your good buying strategy, I believe that we both like a bargain. good luck with the repairs and keep us up to date on progress if you will.

Repairs up to date so far: thin ply bulkhead against all damaged areas, had to remove some of the covering. Internal frame strengthened with ply. Battery box widened for an 1800 mah lipo. Have to use a fair bit of red devil filler on the nose, but should have it looking presentable eventually..... Have to make battery cover and cowl ( Can't find any online, and have been told the PZ gunfighters won't fit...  ). New electronics to fit.   |

Bah! Filler applied and sanded, Wing properly fitted and filled, radiator fitted, spinner bought for the princely sum of £2.99...need a cowl. Cant find any online, and I have no Idea how to make one. I have the rough shape, but the original is made from cheap plastic .5mm thick, and I only have 3mm depron..... |

Pig in a poke update .......  Cowl made out of a cereal box, as none to be had anywhere...  Nearly ready, just needs the spinner!  Cowl needs fixing, and canopy painted, nearly go to go as well! Oink! |

If your looking to make a cowl for yourself (diy), then go to YouTube and plug in the word string "Tap Plastics." This is a company that provides instruction and supplies to make any variety of molds for latex, fiberglass or other applications. They have a ton of videos on YouTube regarding how to make molds and I can tell you from personal experience that they answer emails quickly, even with stupid questions they respond. If they don't have a product, they often can recommend one or at least point you in the right direction. I have used them several times and find them to be very honest and easy to deal with. Vacuum forming could probably work, too and there are tons of videos on that process on YouTube. Just a thought though. Good luck in finding a cowl to work.
I know that I saw something in either the rcgroups or rcuniverse, in Super Cub lengthy threads where someone manufactured cockpits and some cowls. I don't recall who it was or what they offered, but I do remember seeing that they made such. If you have a month or two to scan those forums, you may find someone to make up one for you.

Toff them pigs are getting fattened up .....( and about the Cowl thing...have you tried tissue paper and white Elmer's white glue and water ? be surprised how strong that tissue becomes when you soak it and allow it to dry. As Coupe said some places tell you how to make molds. A Soda can, a liter bottle depending on what size you needed and apply that paper after it is soaked in glue and water and before it dries completely slide it off and allow it to finish drying...it gets really hard and just enough like a plastic.It is not very playable but for a cowl it does need to be, it can be firmer than cardboard) The old balsa kits came with tissue paper and that is all we covered a plane with back then and some still have it. And if it cracks or bends, breaks it can be easily repaired and or replaced with little cost.( tissue paper can be bought at any hobby place ) Look at this old balsa kit Zero it is covered entirely with tissue paper soaked in glue and water and then painted  Just a thought for the many cracks and dents and crunched- pigs you got in that poke. Perhaps, You will find that cheap and easy fix for allot of those damages Looking Great so far |
