anyone have any tips for cleaning yellowed and discoloured foam, and bringing it back to sparkling white?? Soap and water are not up to it, and i'm a bit scared of damaging the foam with something heavy handed.

I don't know about cleaning after drying, but alcohol works well in removing the excess Gorilla Glue and keeping yellowing to a minimum. You may give it a try, but I am sort of doubtful that much will work in that area. I often use one of those metal sheets of sandpaper that they use on wallboard for any light sanding. The stuff works great for decal removal and does not seem to tear apart the foam. A light sanding with such may take off enough to the old glue to allow paint touch up to the area to hide any yellowing. Just a guess on this, so don't take it as a given for repair. Just an idea that may work. Good luck on it. One of the other rc groups may have some info listed for this problem. Certainly enough people have replace broken firewalls and patched the fuselage in the past so that they have probably run into the problem often enough. Good luck and let us know what you try and what works for you. Maybe White Out would cover any smaller damage and blend in on the foam or perhaps mixing a very thin mixture of Elmer's Glue and some white paint to touch up the area. More costly, but would likely work, is to paint over the area by using an air brush setup.

Coupe, thanks for the response. It's not glue or damage I'm trying to clean, it's ageing and weathering on foam that's been exposed to the elements ( The exceed RC pitts I got as part of the job lot I won).

May sound silly, but it may be worth a quick try. Get one of the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and see if it works. You can trim them down to make them easier to hold onto and manipulate where you want them scrubbing. Moisten the pad and see if it works for you. Not sure that it would work, but they are cheap in our Dollar Stores and if you have that product available, it may be worth a try. Good luck with it.

Toffers,
Just a thought, instead of cleaning have you tried using paper white, the kind that comes in a little bottle with a brush in the cap?

How do you know a blonde secretary has been using the computer? Tipp-Ex (aka paper white) marks all over the screen.
I have carried out extensive research using my abacus (look it up if you really have to) and have concluded that two small bottles with applicator brushes should suffice for a fuselage.

White Out or Liquid Paper is what it is called over the pond, here. Never spill it on a black tie (personal experience). Any rate, it was invented by the mother of Michael Nesmith, one of the Monkeys. www.snopes.com/music/artists/nesmith.aspI mentioned it in a previous reply to this thread. It is water-based, so it should be able to be thinned down quite a bit for use. Give 'er a try on a small spot of the plane and see how it goes...
