To try and finally quieter my cub I'm going to fit a new stock motor. If it's still noisy after this then I guess I'll just have a spare motor.
I see the connectors are wrapped with plastic. Is it a case of pulling this back and disconnecting and connecting the new motor or is some soldering called for.
Thought I'd ask before I go and buy it...

They cover the connections but you should be able to simply pull it apart. They aren't shrink wrap, at least they didn't used to be. They are much like very low grade bullets with a plastic sleeve.

Thanks Fly, I was hoping you'd read this. I'll go ahead and order it.

My cub was also noisy, it sounded like a coffee grinder until I replace the prop!

until I replace the prop! Bent, cracked, nicked up, horribly out of balance?

sdg111, From what you have said, I would say that it is more than likely that your prop is out of balance. New ones are not immune from this problem and it really makes a difference. There are a couple of videos on youtube giving very simple and basic instructions for balancing a prop, well worth looking up. kenninny, I believe that this may also be the problem with the noise in your case, by the way, what is your location?

Thanks gents.
Problem is that the motor itself runs fairly quiet and the noise starts when I run it with the gearbox and propshaft attached. Adding the prop doesn't make it any louder.
Anyway, I have ANOTHER new gearbox and propshaft and a new prop so away to try it out with that. I'm happy to buy a new motor but may be wasting my money 'cos I don't think the motor is at fault.
This noise issue goes back a few months now and I'm beginning to wonder that I've forgotten how loud it was when I first flew it, and it's actually not noisy at all. Look at some of my videos to hear the noise I'm talking about.
To be honest, I haven't flown for a month or two due to weather and work, but trying to get the cub in top condition for when the weather improves.
Will let you know how I get on.....

Well, that didn't take long.
Stripped it all back, kept the old gearbox and propshaft and just checked the screws for tightness, gave the propshaft gears a bit of lube with some dry silicone spray and screw it all back together.
Tested it with and without prop and, for goodness knows what reason, she seems considerably quieter.
Haven't ordered motor or even used my new gearbox and propshaft. I'm going to take her out for a flight as soon as the weather improves and see how she goes.
I think I've become obsessed with the noise since I recorded one of the flights.
Anyway, seems good to go. Thanks again guys. Will report back as soon as the weather turns......
