Well being a newbie at flying, and not really having a club anywhere close to me at all, i thought I'd ask on here as to what proper flying etiquette is.
had a bit of a tiff today in the park over who was on what channel - and who was there first. Turned out okay in the end because we were on different channels, but hey, i was flying there first!
got me thinking though, what aaaaare the 'proper' things to do?

Bascially, when you're at the park, and you see someone else flying, you should ask them their frequency before turning on your transmitter. You should expect the same from anyone else. If they just come up and flick on their transmitter without asking your frequecy... I can understand having a tiff. I've watched planes get shot down, it rarely ends pretty.

Those situations take some diplomacy. One of the problems of relative ease of entry into the sport and the proliferation of 27MHz planes (SC being by far one of the most common) with only 6 ch. choices is the increased opportunities for channel conflict. In addition I don't think anyone buying these gets a mini-lesson in channel courtesy from the LHS and certainly don't from mail order. At first assume they are just ignorant, not malevolent. I certainly didn't know since I bought mine used from a guy that probably didn't know either.
If you can do it use it as an opportunity to increase the flying community, maybe make a new friend, and do some educating. Hopefully it'll work out well. If not....then you can have a tiff.
