Hey Gang
Got me a new SC, and wanted to ask(didn't see a startup post yet)
WHAT CAN I DO IMMED. to make her
-stronger -fly better/longer (without lipo if I can for now) -what to use for use for repairs? -how to remove act sensors(but keep 'controllled option) -which paint to use for FOAM(seen many choices so far,,whats BEST) -which paint for plastic portions (I want to COMPLETELY paint her,,,from white to maybe another color)
anything for the newbie sc owner in one thread would help greatly...
thanks in advance

Hey welcome and congrats on your new cub!
I would say use 3m extreme tape on your leading edge of the wing. Use 2 strips of the same tape on the underside in center of the wing to help the struts in the flexing dept.. Foam safe CA works best. Epoxy works really well too. Gorilla glue works good but takes a long time to dry. Simply unplug your act sensors and if you want just pluck them out and tape over the holes. Krylon Fusion is the only paint I have used and it works well. Others have used other stuff but I am unsure what. The same paint for the plastics. Buy extra props and a cowl or 2. Painters tape works good for making designs or lines on it. The stock props are very brittle so a eflite 10x8 may be a better choice. A APC is the best prop IMO. They are tough as nails.
A extra prop shaft might not be a bad idea either.

Use a decent screwdriver to put the tail together and not the one that comes with it.
If you paint it all one colour, put orientation stripes back on the underside of the wing. They really do help.

cubster make sure strapping is across two pins(little black plastic pin) just infront of one of act's. if this falls off your engine will only 1/2 reve up and die. i suggest you look at a li po before investing in any more ni cad's. a little more investment but the extra power and speed will get you out of a lot of crashes. if you use li po's make sure you remove the jumper mentioned above. tape on the front of the wings is a must. pick a calm day for your first flights. good luck i am on my 3rd one in a year and still have a lot of fun, once you master the landings and take off. that is what you must practive over and over, it is amazing how much crashing you get with no or little damage.

and does it help to tape the cowl to the fuselage (at windshield)in front? ?
also, will consider lypo
heard about bigger wheels, assume this is tail wing too,,,,any posts on how to do this?
thnx gents!!!

cubster - check out this site; www.ampaviators.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=17&Itemid=28Shows lots of places on the plane to reinforce and how to do it. Scroll down to the last one "Super Cub - A Users Review" and read that one first. Great info!! Larger wheels (2 1/2" to 3") will let it take off from grass fields much easier. Changing connector plugs to Deans is a must. Clear box tape on the leading edge and reinforce the fus where the trailing edge of the wing makes contact. Joe shows all those in that thread and many more. I'll be reinforcing the battery box tomorrow. I didn't do it before and it's starting to seperate now. The Krylon paint works, but don't hold the can too close or the propellant can melt the styrafoam. Put clear box tape on the leading edge of the wing (the round part in front). So when you hit stationary objects, pieces of your wing won't be left behind. The two strips of box tape under the wing, the full length, is for wing support. So the wing doesn't flex so much when you loop or pull up real hard. I did that and fly without struts now. Good luck and read through that thread. I'm sure you will love that plane like the rest of us. Hig

Since I am new to this also, and have only had one outing so far and the worst damage was a cracked cowling and the discovery that the electric motor had never been screwed to the gear box. I decided the buy new wing and tail feathers and put them on the plane, and save the pretty ones with the stock decals until I learn to land. To decorate the bare vertical stabilizer and cowl, my daughter provided several nice kitty cat stickers, and a couple hearts for the rudder.
