I have some newer lipos that I started using a balancer on and they seem to be not charging to as high as they used to. They are Thunder Powers 1320 11.1V, they had been charging up to 12.30 or so now it is hard to get them over 11.90. Is this the balancer or the batteries getting older. I alway charge at 1amp.

Well it sounds like your cells are going bad. A fully charged lipo 3s should be 12.601 peaked. Which balancer/charger are you using? I have some lipo's that still carry a full charge after 2+ yrs. Kevin

OK I have 2 of those chargers. I have not had any problems with it but I mostly charge NiCd's and NiMh's and Li-ion's.....not my lipo's. I have 4 other lipo chargers I use for them. There is another thread on here where someone said they had a similar problem with that charger charging lipo's. I cannot say for sure it's the charger. How old are those lipo's and approx. how many cycles have they been through?

Perhaps some of you can help me. I purchased the pkz 1519 peak charger from Hobbyzone to charge my 8 cell batt for the SC. The add said that the original DC charger would not fully charge the 8 cell. Now, can I charge the original 7 cell on this charger, and at what rate can I do this. Can I use the 1.8 rate, or do I have to stay at the 1.2 rate that is the max output of the stock charger? Thanks Rolie

Thanks Rolie Yes, you can charge less # cells with no problem. In general you can charge to meet your situation. In the field use a higher setting for faster charging, but this is somewhat harder on the battery. At home if you have the time I personally slow it down to .5-1.0. PZ chargers are not really high quality and have a tendency to prematurely terminate charging at higher rates along with being harder on the battery. If possible NiMh should be cooled down before re-charging and only get warm NOT hot while charging. Try to cycle them less than 3x/day. That said, it's your battery. Harder use will just shorten their life somewhat but you'll likely be going to lipos in the future anyway. Pretty much everyone does. fly
