I was going to put a 2150 lipo in my SC. It weighs about the same as the NiMH already in there. People generally mount these standing vertically in the front of the battery compartment. So, it seems like I would have the same weight but a bit more forward. Is this going to have a bad effect on how the plane flies? I'm a beginner and would like to hear from anybody who has some understanding of whether I'm doing something that will have negative effects or whether I should do something differently....
Thanks, Jim

if it is about the same weight and you can fit it in horizintally, then do that. Just measure the COG with a NiMh pak in and then the lipo and compare. They should be close if the pak weights are close. The advantage to mounting them vertically at the front of the battery well has an advantage if you also upgrade to a lighter brushless setup in the front. It helps to balance the plane in that case without adding to much weight to the front to compensate.

Thanks Dave. Here is a URL for a 2150 lipo. The dimensions are the same as the Enerland I intend to get: 4 x 1-3/8 x 1-1/8" Do you think a 4 inch long lipo would fit down in the compartment people have made by cutting the battery box? hobby-lobby.com/polyquest.htm scroll down to the NEW 2150mah 11.1v (Enerland makes these I think and they are lots cheaper from him, you can find him on Ebay) Thanks, Jim

Hey Jim,
I recently went to LiPo in my cub. (see my post a couple posts down).
The COG remained about the same, although I never measured it other than actual flying. It looks like the batteries you intend to use are about the same size as my 2100's so I would think you would see the same results.
When I cut the power completely and glide the plane still glides evenly with out pointing the nose up or down.
Be prepared for a lot more power and a much faster plane. Let us know when you've had a chance to switch how you like it.

I just ran my new Thunder Power lipo for the first time (with stock electronics). Wow, what a change!
My battery is vert and I didn't notice a COG change either. It flew quite well.
The battery is about 4-1/4"L x 1"-1/4W x 1"D (fits great)
