Is there a LiPoly that will work better for the Stock RX in a SC?
It seams as if I read somewhere someone said to just upgrade the battery to a LiPoly and that would give the cub a bit more go.. Is this true? Can I simply buy a better battery that will make the plane faster? I would think you would have to change the RX and Motor and add a faster motor with a new ESC?
Thanks in advance,
Jerry

Awesome! I guess this topic has been discussed a few times. Does it really offer more speed?

just did wheelies before..heres my friends RC18T after he put in a lipo www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZq2P76wz3II have the same 6800K brushless in my RC18SC but it will go over backwards if I nail the throttle. his will do a complete backflip or 1 and a 1/2. went from a top speed of 55mph to 70+mph need I say more? ;D

BIG difference from the 8 cell to the Lipoly. Two reasons. First the Lipoly weighs 1/4 of a standard NiMH pack. That means twice the battery will still only weight 1/2 as much! Less weight to move. Then there is the Voltage. A lipoly cell makes 3.7 volts. So a 3 cell pack is 11.1 volts as compared to the 8 cell packs 9.6. You also have to look at run time. You will get 25 minutes of improved performance out of a 2100 11.1 volt lipoly verses the optional 15 minutes of ok performance out of the heavy 8 cell.

Any benefits using 2s or parallel over 3s/p, 4s/p, etc. I know they go up in voltage but how much voltage can you use on the SC?
Ex: 2200mAH 7.4V 2S1P over a 2500mAH 11.1V 3S1P

I found some info in other threads in this forum that answered my questions.
The more voltage equals more power and more mAH's equals longer flight times.

^^^ yep they will work, might have to change the connectors but no biggie. 1300 mah isn't to shabby, the stock was only 1000. also its lighter so you wont have to fly it as hard if you don't want too. also it should fit better then say a 1800 or 2200, might even fit with out to modding.

Thanks duck9191,
2 are on their way now.
connectors aren't a problem, I've already bought a packet of deans and an 80w solder iron.
I noticed the weight of these LiPo's is only 112 grams and the dimensions are quite small so they should be good.
I'm just not sure about a charger yet.

cool one less thing to worry about with deans, plus i always hated fighting with that tab to get the batteries apart. let us know how they work for ya when you get to try them.
if you can find a charger that has a balancer built in thats a plus, alot of people say you dont have to balance smaller lower voltage lipo's, but i would any ways.

Can anyone recomend a full battery setup for me? Lipo Battery plus charger? I dont want to peace mill a setup together if there is something commercial off the shelf available...
Our LHS has a battery/charger setup for around 100 bucks but thats too expensive for me...

If you are willing to wait for stock to return, united hobbies has a decent lipo charger with built-in balancer here: Dual Lipo Charger with Balancer $25 www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2055Or you can try to pick up a Hobbico MkII Pro series NiMh/Lipo dual charger on Ebay for between $30-40. You can pick up a few HXT D9 lipos from them too: 3S 20C 1700mAhr $25 www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2096That's what I will be ordering eventually. dave mc

Hey guys, im new to the RC plane world , had a cub for a few weeks now and im looking to upgrade to a Lipo now that i have the plane under control with ease. I was wondering if anyone here has used the above batteries/charger yet.. how do they fit into the cub do you have to mod or anything? I assume you have to buy new connectors instead of using the stock connectors.
Im looking to upgrade very very soon(this weekend if possible. From the reviews those batteries and charger are real good. Just need to know how it does in the cub.
If those dont work too well, can anyone give me a link to a set up that would work very well for the cub, mainly looking for better flight time and more power the 7 cells dont cut it.. and instead of upgrading to 8cell or 9 cell i wouold like to just go straight to Lipo's.
Thanks, Chance

i myself havent used the above batteries, but they show there stock as -111, so you might not get them for awhile lol. if you dont mind spending the money thunderpower makes really good packs. or if your cheap like my i got two cheap 2200mah on ebay for $44. granted the discharge rate isnt what they say it is but there ok, and with a stock motor they will be fine.
either one of the chargers listed will work pretty good, the hobbico charger can charge your stock batteries too, which could be helpful.
