I've been reading on this section that it's ok to fit this bigger battery and I can see that with a bit of effort I aught to be able to slide it through the battery box ok. My question is, does it affect the CG much or will I have to put some lead towards the nose?

It will affect it, I doubt it will be enough to want to add weight though.. But the only way to be sure will be to check, or fly it and see.
I switched from a 1300mah to a 3950mah in my Sport Cub and didn't notice the difference.. Different planes, I know.

I had to add a little weight in the nose of mine even with stock batt.....but where the battery box is and how it sets ( unless you did some changes ) I do not think it will harm the CG enough to notice....My issue would be how does it affect the ESC ? Getting Hot for example ? If that is fine, I for-see no other issue .

The perceived wisdom seemed to be that the ESC would be unaffected but you could fly for over half an hour. Hope that's all true as I've ordered two of the bloody things lol

Cut a hole in the top of the battery box, mount battery vertically to the firewall with Velcro. Easy in, easy out, CG will stay fine.
The size of the battery alone will not affect the ESC. But the size, and maybe if it's better quality, can allow the battery to support the voltage better (less sag/drop). This means the motor+ESC might see more current at full throttle. On a marginal ESC if you push it too hard for too long it might burn out.
Note-this situation is only true because the SC ESC and battery are both kind of lame (marginal ESC, not so hot battery), as are MOST RTF electronics on MOST cheap planes.

I hollowed out some of the foam rearwards of the battery compartment and it just fits, quite snug really. Had to cut the batt wires to just the right length to connect or there wouldn't have been room. CG didn't change much just slightly tail heavy but easily dealt with by trimming. I didn't time it but two flights totalled around half an hour and it ended up at 14%.
Brilliant day for flying today as also had two HZ batts which I recharged from car. Somewhat windy but I'm learning to use it to advantage, in fact quite handy when landing, almost in a hover and slide down to ground. Mind you a couple of times there was a sudden gust at the last moment so full power and go round again. Great fun. :-)

I know, shocking isn't it?
I flew the evening before last in about 12mph winds and had a blast, but I could only do so because the wind was steady and I could take off and land straight into it.
Flew 6 batteries and had a blast, even managed my first (and second, and third) touch and go.. Had a load of fun.
But that kind of breeze is uncommon, very welcome though.

Not too windy today, no it was wet!! At least I got about 20 minutes flying before it came down lol. I recommend the 2200maH battery mod now I've done it, half hour plus flying time. :-)

Do you get 30 mins off one battery? Off the 2200 one yes but concentrating that long is a bit much in one go and can give a stiff neck so I usually do 1/4 hour land, have a f*g and a chat and go up again. :-)

I know English in America and Real English spoken by the Brits have some differing words and terms used daily that are not used here in the States Sailor you need to define your terminology. I will try , the word f*g ( f*g ) ? here in the States is a word /term used for homosexuals...a term they consider slanderous to them . I know over there it is a term for Cigarette we would call a smoke( most I bet do not know that here in the States ) Like the term f*g**t is a bundle of sticks for burning and I think also at some point also meant , " old or unpleasant woman " or " f*g**t gatherer " ? I think it was about elderly women gathering firewood to sell to make a living ? Anyway, in case some one read that and said WHAT ? and might take offense..... I thought I would clarify it to any who did not know the terminology . I still found amusing.

How long does it take to charge the 2200? Depends on the charger. With mine out takes about 30 minutes charging at 2c. But with the standard HZ charger it would be about 2 hours.
