The range is farther than the stock radio but don't try putting it in a large plane. The Dx7 has the same range as a 72mhz radio but that is overkill for the SC. Why can't the DX6 be used for larger planes (if using different servos and Rx)? I'm going to upgrade my system and have been looking at the DX6 and Futaba 2.4gig 6EX. I like the price of the DX6, but if you can't fly large planes with it, then I'll spend a little more and know that I can fly anything I want.

I've wondered this myself and recently found out why.Spectrum is concerned that with larger fuel planes the density and metal components will interfere with the receiver.I found this in the spectrum FAQ.
"What is the range of my DX6? When used in intended parkflyer models, the range is farther than you can see the model to control it. We don't give a specific range because many issues such as signal attenuation due to metallic conductive material in the aircraft has an effect on the overall range. In fact, that is the main reason why the DX6 is limited to parkflyers only. "

Thanks for the info, JT!
For once, today was my lucky day ;D!! I found the Futaba 2.4gig system on eBay for 120-bucks, brand new, in the box, AND free shipping. All I need is a couple servos and I'll be good-to-go.

I have been flying an SC for about a month now and find myself wanting to upgrade the electronics. I have pretty much decided on the Spektrum DX6. The only reservation I had was the low run time with the stock batt (9.6v NiCd) in the Tx. After some research I found this simple mod to the Tx which will double the run time with the stock batt for around $16. My soldering skills are not the greatest but I`m confident I could pull this off. Here is a link to the mod, if you have a DX6 it might be worth trying. www.dimensionengineering.com/appnotes/spektrum_mod/spektrum_mod.htm 5280 (Jeff)
