New to this cub club...been enjoying reading all the helpful hints, tips and tricks. Weathers not cooperating down here so I haven't had a maiden flight yet and its flying me crazy. Wrapped the plane as suggested for strength. I have anothef tail wheel bigger so i swappd cor stock. and a motor .brush less 400/ 950kV. Would this be a sufficient upgrade with a 10x8 and ESC.or should I stick with stock.I haven't inst the motor or ESC yet

If you run the stock setup the GWS 1060 (10x6) is a great prop. It is all I used. I also use it on my brushless setup.

If you are a brand new flier (not flown at all), I suggest you simply fly it stock (NOT the 10x8-that has a high probability of burning up the stock setup with too much throttle) until you get the hang of it. Otherwise you'll simply be crashing your new brushless motor. I know, no one gets into the hobby planning to crash but that's what most folks do for awhile.
Put the brushless in after you can fly or you wreck the stock setup.
Note - you prop for a MOTOR, not for the plane. So find the recommendations for the motor+battery you have and use that. You have to figure out a MOTOR+PROP appropriate for the plane.

Very good point.

I'm thinking about getting some tundra tires so my plan was to use the bigger prop that comes with the floats. Anyone have experience with anything like this?

Tundra tires have nothing to do with the draw from the motor. It's all about the prop+motor+battery combo. There is no free power in electric. Read the whole thread again. Read my link on the first page carefully. It's info that you'll need going forward.

RUN A GWS EP1060 PROP(10x6). Best all around prop in my opinion. I used it on my stock cub, and with my brushless setup that I have done on my cub.
Just my opinion and what I use/like.

George Do you have a wattmeter and a stock motor? If so you (or someone) should compare the stock 9x6 with the GWS 10x6. My suspicion is amp draw is very similar. They probably fly pretty much the same too with the fatter stock prop acting like the longer GWS. Pitch is the same so speed should be about identical.

I do have a watt meter, I do not have a stock motor anymore though, or I would do that so there would be a comparison. If I remember right, they are similar but the GWS prop being a little better all the way around, but I can not remember now. When I get a chance I will meter it with the brushless setup I am running and give all my specs, just so it can be known.

I know I'm new to this community. But I learned a very important thing about props, motors, esc and the battery. If you want more power from a bigger prop you need to upgrade the motor and the esc and the battery. It's a huge process. Because changing the prop changes the draw on your motor which eventually will cook it and the Ed will be damaged. You always start from the front and work back if you want to upgrade a prop. You need to upgrade the motor and the esc and the battery.
