Renard80 - feel free to join in any time. Sorry, I've been busy with other (less important!) matters recently. Apropos my rubber motor cushion - since installation, my Cub has suffered at least four front-end impacts (one of which was when a very experienced pilot was testing her for me . . . . None of them was at very high speed but there was some damage to the fuselage, prop and tail. My gut feeling is that formerly the firewall would have cracked. As it is, the firewall has remained intact. ;D So far as I am concerned, then, my motor cushion was worth installing.

Well, given you prodigious experience in this arena I'm inclined to think the idea may have some merit.
Very experienced pilot crashing your plane? Have you considered that the plane may be jinxed?

This could be taken in totally the wrong way.
Could make an old man very happy!!!!!!!!!! Hmmm, could also make a very happy man very old!
The be all and end all is damage limitation, and, to be brutally honest, it makes very little difference.. A bit of foam may limit small landing damage ( Prop stike on landing...) However.... for those that are still learning.....Nose in, and boom!

Well, that rubber buffer has now been in place on my firewall for more than a year, and it's still doing the job. I recently suffered one of my worst 'nose-ins' ever, causing a lot of damage. See here: supercubclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=crash&thread=5049&page=1Removing the cowl for repairs, I fully expected to discover a cracked firewall. However, I am pleased to report that it was completely undamaged by the impact, presumably due to my rubber buffer. ;D Hope this update is useful to anyone considering such a mod.

Just a late idea on this older thread, but if you check out Ace Hardware, Lowes or just about any box store with a plumbing department, they usually sell 6" X 6" rubber sheets for maybe a dollar or so, apiece. They come in either red or black rubber. They are easy to cut to form and I believe they are about 1/4" thick. Plastic washers may actually add support, but for cushioning effect, the rubber sheets I mentioned may work well. If anyone tries such, let us know how it worked out. The red sheet is slightly thicker than the black sheet, too.
