Do any of you think that vortex generators would do anything? It occurred to me as i was helping my dad load up the 185 and i saw them. Do you think it would do anything? besides make more drag and weight?

I am sure that every "Real" aircraft has had extensive testing in and out of a wind tunnel in order to evaluate the necessity and possible performance increases that vortex gen's may provide!!! In theory, sure they work but the size, length, placement and material used would all impact the overall effectiveness.
Here is an article I found!!
A great deal of research has been done to develop guidelines to determine the size and shape of a proper vortex generator. Vortex generators come in many shapes and sizes depending on their intended use.Vortex generators can be used to improve the performance of aircraft in a variety of ways. If properly sized and positioned vortex generators can be used to lower the stall speed of an aircraft, improve stability and control during maneuvering, decrease turning radius, decrease takeoff distance and increase takeoff weight.......

Unfortunately that info is for full size planes. The effectiveness is associated with speed, and a thing called Reynold's numbers. Mostly for RC sized planes they are not effective.

Yes fly, thats the point I was trying to make. How would you know if they are giving any improvement on an RC aircraft unless you did serious R & D. IMHO a wast of time!!
