Hi, I have a question concerning the weight of the wing compared to stock after you wrap it in clear packing tape... I want to do it but i don't want my plane to be heavy... -Sam

The SC is not a finely tuned flying machine, more a loveable lump of foam.
My opinion (FWIW) is that the weight of a reasonable grade packing tape won't make any appreciable difference.
However, you may wish to wait a while and see if the more experienced members agree with me or otherwise.
I haven't covered the entire wing, just the leading edges and tips. These are the areas most vulnerable to damage.

Just cover the leading edge and tips. There are some very zealous folks here that have mummified their Cub in tape. That's just trading one problem for another.

Considering that dylan covered his in econocote, then added a camera or two, then fitted a GPS locator and god knows what else, and it still flew, I personally don't think a bit of tape would make a bit of difference! Put a brick on it, it would still fly ( albeit a bit faster and not glide as well, but it would still fly!) The SC was designed to fly in the hands of a first timer ( with a bit of knowledge). Withb a bit of knowlege, it can fly with EDF motors, cameras, FPV kit, and (possibly) a brick!) As soon as I've got a reliable cameraman (oops - person- my daughter!) I'm doing the brick thing! unless it's already been done - Thats a challenge, by the way....) Beat you to it! By the way, 'Shure, 'Tis alla load 'o' sh'ite....' when said in Irish, is the best phrase ever invented. Best phrase you've ever heard?

I cant resist the temtatation ;D It's great to be back on the forum and "weight" is one of my favorite subjects" ;D The original question was about adding tape to the wing!! In the past I've had some in depth conversations with other members about weight, wing loading ect. If your that interested in the subject then go back and read some of my older posts. The super Cub has been my test bed for some pretty radical mods. I have used it to learn how to deal with foam and electrics after coming from a Balsa and nitro past. I have cut it,diced it and done everything short of grinding it up in a blender and I have weighed every piece of the stock cub. If I were to guess I would say I have over 100 flights on my cub using different configurations and weights. This is what I have learned. 1. A stock Super Cub can be loaded up to about 27 or 28 oz before I can tell any difference in flight carateristics. This includes power managment and landing speed. Now, keep in mind that if you add any weight( even 1 gram ) something will change. But the question is "when do you start to notice a difference". Lets put this in perspective, if you add a couple of spycams, a 2200mah battery and tape the hell out of the wing you will be at just about 27.5 to 28oz. About 2 ounces above stock weight. I have never been able to see a noticable difference when flying. Now, of course if you ONLY fly on dead calm days and your cub is trimmed just perfect AND you are used to flying at EXACTLY half throttle a STOCK cub and then you increase the weight by a couple of ounces, if in the middle of your flight you take your eyes off your plane and look down at your throttle you MAY notice that to hold level flight your throttle is now one small notch above middle. So you simply reduce back to half throttle and trim for level flight. Your airspeed will be imperceptily slower. There are other pilots and other planes that even adding a few grams will cause a big difference but the SC is not one of them. When you get into the range of 28 to 32 ounces, things start to change. The biggest change will be climb speed and landing speed. The SC will handle better in windy conditions. It will still fly GREAT!!!! The pilot now needs to have more experience because landings become faster. IMHO you need to be looking at a 35-30 to a 35-32 outrunner to handle the extra weight and a 35-36 would be my personal choice. 32 ounces and above and you should have a good reason why your flying so heavy. At this point you would be better off buying a plane that meets your needs instead of using a supercub. This is a video from 3 days ago. Im at 38 ounces!!! vimeo.com/26799338My SC does not fly like a stock Super Cub. But it flys GREAT and I'm currently using it to test Gyros in planes. I've actually had a Turnigy 35-42 outrunner on this plane to do some motor, battery, esc combo testing and I was just under 40 ounces. It flew!!! IMHO, if your new to flying and the Super Cub, then keep it under 28 ounces with the stock motor ESC combo !!

What stupid twit came up with the idea of fixing a brick to a supercub? It might have worked except for the U/C bending outwards, and the brick sitting on the floor! Back to the drawing board!

The pub owner (david) who happens to be one of my closest friends thinks I'm drunk or loosing my mind. ;D Mary from Dungloe "bring it on" Ok, back to buisness!!! @toff, give me the size and weight of the brick!!!! I'll try it Maby I am drunk!!! ;D

In the beginning, God made "THE GOOD BLACK STUFF" ;D David said that I should be "kneecapped" for spelling that wrong!!! (Kneecapping is a form of malicious wounding, often as criminal punishment or torture, in which the victim is injured in the knee, often using a firearm or power drill to damage the knee joint and kneecap.) SH'ITE ;D

This was something that was used during the dark days of the 70's/80's within Ireland, to those who had differing poltical or religious opinions to those who inflicted it.

O yes!!! I'm well aware of what kneecaping is and what it is "still" used for I've been coming to thease parts of the country since 1993 and even though the media portrays an era of peace this part of Ireland is not a place where you talk about religion or politics in a Pub!!! And if you slip up and call "Derry" "London Derry" you really may find yourself in a load of SH'ITE!!!!! Back to flying!!! Its really gusting today. Another hour and Im gonna do some cliff flying!!!
