Well I reinforced the wing saddle at the rear a la the popsicle stick method (although I used model aircraft plywood) and that is working great. But I see that the front edge of the saddle is ground up like hamburger. Anyone else have this problem? If so, what was your fix?
Cheers...

A bit late for you, as unfortunately the damage is done, but for the benefit of any new owners reading this - I reinforced the front of the saddle with clear packing tape.
It's still good after many nasty crashes.
I hope someone has the remedy for your problem, hobbyjumper.

Doh! the only square inch of foam I did NOT tape. ;D Plane still flies fine. I will find a way to fix and report back. Here's how I fixed it. The hardwood dowel is glued in place, in a small trough. Works quite well. Also helps visually centre the wing after a mishap.

Cloth tape on the cowl, nice! Did you get that brilliant idea from one of my posts, or could it possibly be that I'm not the only person in the world to think of using cloth-tape to reinforce something?

Totally got the idea from this forum, except that over here we call it duct tape (maybe you do too?), and after 50 years of it being silver only they recently started producing it in a rainbow of colours. So when I saw the white duct tape at Canadian Tire, I said, perfect. In retrospect maybe orange would have been smarter, but orientation in the air has not been a problem so far.
Btw, that reinforced cowl (100% outside; 50% inside) has undoubtedly prevented massive damage time and again.

Wow looks just like the white Gaffer (Gaffa?) tape I have on my cowl, that many advise not to use. Feel free to use my ideas, thats what all the infos here for, sharing!

Eh? What's wrong with using gaffer tape, supposedly?

thanks to a recent episode of mythbusters, i am now an expert on duck/duct tape.
While many call it duct tape, because it is used for sealing the gaps between sections of air conditioner ducting, it is actually called DUCK tape because that's what is was originally named when the military invented it for sealing ammo crates. they call it duck tape because the adhesive is a natural rubber that repels water, just like a duck's back.
Duck tape does not have cloth reinforcement in it, duck tape is elastic and stretchy, two things that cloth tape is not. Cloth tape is otherwise known as gaffer tape, because it's used by Gaffers in the tv/film industry to secure the cables they have running around everywhere.
what is supposedly wrong with using cloth tape or gaffer tape is that it's quite heavy. Using it around the nose isn't so bad, but if you use it on the back of your airplane near the tail it will MAJORLY throw off your centre of gravity.
