Anybody use a simulator to improve your flying skills, especially for the SuperCub? Anybody use FMS (flying-model-simulator?) If so, what joystick did you use?

Is it possible to use the stock SC transmitter as the FMS joystick?

I think so, but you need a cable to go from your USB (or other port) to the trainer port of the SC transmitter. I have AeroFly Professional Deluxe and love it. FMS is awesome, too. I've messed around with FSOne a bit - it's not my favorite, but it's packed with features. This is the cable I use: Hitec Flight Simulator Cable

Okay, I flew my SC today and now know that I must develop a lot more skill. Does practice with the FMS translate to better flying in the field? I don't think the SC transmitter has a trainer port. I can't imagine the FMS keyboard controls would develop the skills that could help me fly better in the field. I'd have to get some kind of joystick setup. Any suggestions?

I defnately notice a difference after using real flight and heading to the field. I am still a novice flyer and I do ALOT better at the field if I at least get a few initial flights in on the SIM before I go out to the field. I will definately make it a habbit from now on to only go to the field after I "warm up" on the simulator....

I went with FMS... and since I only have the radio gear that came with the SuperCub, I had to find something that would work with FMS. After research I found the Esky kit. It is basically FMS bundled together with a controller. You can get it on Ebay for like $20. I know FMS is free, but it still was the least expensive / easy option for a controller. I plugged it in and it works like a champ with FMS. ozrcboy even has an FMS model for the supercub for download on his site.

FMS is great! The "Super Cup" plane works just like the Super Cub model. I spent a few days with the simulator and had a crash-free day at the park today.
I am using the Logitech Dual Action Game Pad a two-joystick game controller with FMS. The Logitech Rumble Pad is comparible, but costs $10 more.
This USB controller works nicely because there are some programable buttons on it that I set to contol the FMS pause and zoom commands.

I found the Super Cup to be not at all like the super cub. Doesn't that model have ailerons. Get the supercub model from ozrcboy's site.

I found the Super Cup to be not at all like the super cub. Doesn't that model have ailerons. Get the supercub model from ozrcboy's site. The Super Cup does have ailerons. I just mapped the aileron channel=0 so they did not move. I'm a newbie so my skill level is low enough that anything even close is a big help. I would like to try ozrcboy's SuperCub, but could not find it on the web. I'm sure it is out there. Anyone got a link to it?

BTW a simulator is the best tool for any new and old pilot. I use mine all the time to keep sharp. It can help in many ways. I always change the wind to simulate what it is like here. I also put the sun in diff. locations like flying at noon and then flying at 5:00pm....etc. There are so many ways to sharpen your skills with a simulator. I would recommend real flight to anyone with a good video card. I had to upgrade mine to get the full performance out of it. Now it is unbelievable. I now fly em before I buy em. I littlerally download a plane of interest from knife edge and fly it before I buy it. I have found that most every plane on there is nearly exactly the same as flying the real thing. Food for thought. Kevin

I've not tried the one that Mrmugen linked. The one I was referring to on oz's site is here: www.ozrcflying.com/2007/03/fms-downloads.htmlYou will notice it is much more docile than the supercup model you were flying. I've found that this model, even when trimmed, does not climb slightly at half throttle. Maybe I'll try mrmugen's model.
