Photoshop CS4
I used the magic wand with a tolerance of 99, holding the shift key to select all areas. Next I used hue/saturation and completely desaturated the red I had selected. Then used colour balance to add cyan and blue till aprox right, though will admit was abit rough and not a perfect job.

Here it is, John: It takes some tweaking and practice, and it might not be the right way to go all the time, but it's easy and painless.

Thanks for the PS methodology Erwin, but I gotta be honest, I just tried it out & the method I used was actually faster as I was able to select all the parts and do it in two quick adjustments with no brushing the colour in.
Still, very handy to know
