here is my first Q. I'm sure more to come. i was practicing my controls on the ground at less than half throttle, when all of a sudden it went into full throttle i throttled down panicked turn off transmitter but engine stayed full power till motor cooked. has anyone else heard of this? the hobby shop says my esc failed and I'm waiting for the new one to arrive as well as the motor.

Yeah you could say it failed!!!!! A very big no-no is cutting the transmitter off when the battery is still plugged in. Transmitter on first, and off last...always. As for why it went to full throttle on its own...... No idea. I am still learning and am no expert, but others on here might be able to give more insight. Don't give up!!! Skivit

The ESC failure rate since the Cub went lipo has been high. It's just not made for the extra power. Could have been just a crummy part, or the low throttle and low airflow caused it to overheat. Odd as it may seem part throttle is harder on the ESC than full throttle.
At this point I'd check your lipo also-it probably took a hit. Maybe no big deal but if it was harmed Horizon should owe you one of those too.
Turning off the TX doesn't help, as you learned. Never turn the TX off until the battery is unplugged. Spectrum folks get away with it but it's not a good idea and it's poor ground management.
