!! THIS is why I love this forum! Solid alternatives and improvements vs. just throwing $$ at a problem. I have wiped out three sets of tail feathers. As I was reading one post, I was thinking why not increase the size (slight bit more surface area) some. Then, bling! Dill mentions it. Am I wrong to say that this would improve its responsiveness?
How did the field test go??

Winter hit, so I still haven't tested mine at all, but I think it will be good.

My tail works awesome! Having the bigger rudder and elevator makes the cub WAAAY more maneuverable, but I still can't do an outside loop though :-(
The Carbon Fiber makes the thing near on indestructible too. I've got a piece of CF sticking up a bit just behind the rudder that's glued in. That makes is so that when it does nose over, only the CF hits the ground, not the tail itself of the LEDs.

I made an elevator and h stab out of corro and noticed two things. one was that the hinge is stiff even tho I made it only in three spots. The other thing is that it is really heavy.
On my other plane the parkzone t-28 I had ripped the middle hinge making it really unstable in the air so I pealed the coating off of it, cut off the other two hinges and replaced the hinge with a long strip of iron on gap-less fabric hinge and re coted it with ultracote flamin red. The hinge moves perfectly with no resistance, and the color matches the other red paint on the rest of the plane and looks great with a red stab.
The super cub stab is made the same way, and mine has broken in the middle of the elevator. so I plan to rebuild it by grafting cf to the elevator and then use some of my iron on hinge tape and I may even re-cote this one in flamin red too.

I indicated the stuff is heavy in an earlier post. At the end of the long tail arm this can create CG problems.
You can cut the stuff such that the corrugations line up with the hinge. Then slice though 1 layer of material into one of the spaces leaving half behind for the hinge. Flex a bunch. If still too stiff poke dozens of holes with a pin or slice some material out a little at a time.
FWIW you can probably do almost as well with less weight with depron (meat packing tray material) coated with packing tape or shrink.

Thank you sir. I can not seem to attach the old rudder plate for the tail wheel assy'. Could not remove the old one without destroying it. What did you guys use? I used the backside of a long knife to make the seams for the rudder and elevator. Then worked them back and forth for a while until well pliable for the servos. Once complete, I had the wild idea to just keep going! Yep, thats' right, the MAIN wing. Just for kicks I would like to make a SC wing. Same dihedyl and size but beefed up and reinforced with CF rods using the same 1/4 foamboard. My first impression is that this plane would fly squirrely at best, overly responsive and without any sort of glideing charactoristics. Oh yea, I like this idea. What the cr@p, its' free and I would record the "X-craft's" maiden for all to get some giggles from.

Balsa? light, yes, but still heavier than foam ( I think?) Solar film? Thats why the CG didn't change much. it's still light, but still heavier than the foam, so you now have a ( slightly) tail heavy plane. Small bit of weight in the nose will correct that.

Built mine from foam board today. Tough but a little heavy. What the hay, it was free. It was some signage that I had laying around from a trade show. Am I the only one that can't see that?

I've flown mine and it works heaps well, especially if you put some vertical CF through the corro so that it touches the fuselage down the bottom, and protrudes out the top to prevent the tail from nose-overs. Just make sure you check the CG before you fly it, you may need to add some weight to the nose to balance it out.
I couldn't view parrothead's picture either, tried to but it asked me to log in as him.
