Wow, a special mention in the thread title, don't I feel special! This is the setup I've gone with. Turnigy 35-30 motor: www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=3883The 35-36 will have a bit more power and probably give you unlimited vertical. If you want to use stock batteries you'll want something smaller than the one I chose, I had my eye on this one for a while: cgi.ebay.com.au/Emax-30A-Airplane....=item2a07ea8df9Otherwise get one of the 28mm sized Turnigys, which are probably just as good (or better) and cheaper: www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2112. Anodised aluminium motor mount: cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?....ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:ITThis works great with the 35-30, a master airscrew prop will clear the cowl by about 1mm, I'll just add a single washer behind the prop for a little more clearance. Corona servos, seem to work great BTW: www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=103442200mah 20C Flightmax batteries: www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6306Hobbywing 30A ESC: cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?....ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:ITESC programming card to make life easy: www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2169Battery Eliminator Circuit: www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10312Although I've heard that the one I got can barely put out 3A, this one would probably be better: www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store...._5.5~23v_I nput I like Master Airscrew props because they're not as breakable as GWS or APC. I've clocked the 9x6 at 18.3 amps, the 9x7 at 20 amps, and I also have some 9x5s I haven't tested yet. All these props are viable choices for a 1100kv motor, they will just get you different power levels and flight times. The most time consuming parts of my build have been the iron on covering film, and the navlights. Without them I think the build would have been pretty easy. I've used the same Corona servos for the elevator and rudder, even though they're a little too small for the mounting holes. To make them a tight fit, I added a couple of cut-down popsicle sticks on the back of the servos, and one layer of double sided tape. I kept the covering layer on the double sided tape so it only stuck on the servo side, the tape was just used for a bit of padding. I also used a layer of double sided tape as padding between the servos. With this arrangement, the servos are a really tight fit and won't budge. Even though they probably didn't need it, being such a tight fit, I stuck them down with double sided tape too. is this the right set up how does your super cub lp fly and what do you have for a motor on yours or should i go with a differnt set up can you give me the links if you thick i should go with a different set up let me know thanks jay

Is this the right setup? That's kind of a hard question to answer mate, there is no right and wrong really, you make it to be whatever you want it to be. All I can say is that this setup has worked well for me. In terms of what motor to choose, if you want it to fly a little better than the stock one, use a Turnigy 28-30. For a bit more power, or if your cub is heavier than stock, use a Turnigy 35-30. If you want something that can really scream, get a Turnigy 35-36. They are three motors I've mentioned from my limited knowledge, realistically there are hundreds to choose from. If you want cheap motors the best place to get them from are hobbyking, plus2city, giantcod and probably a few others too. I've just made a thread comparing the two 35mm Turnigy motors: supercubclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=sccgeneral&action=display&thread=3652&page=1If you particularly want to make a cub like mine, here's my buildlog here: supercubclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pb&action=display&thread=2948I would recommend that you look at a few different cubs on here, and use the modifications and ideas that you like personally.

yeah that mount is good, it's the same one I've got.
As I've described in my thread, the motor I originally went with was the 35-30, but I've just upgraded to the 35-36. With the 35-36 the thing's a rocket!

good work Jay, that looks about as good as anything I could recommend. I wouldn't use the hobbyking firewall motor mount, use the one from ebay that you posted earlier. That 30A plus speed controller is almost identical to the one I've got and it's OK for props up to about 10x5, but you MUST get the 40a speed controller to use bigger props that can get the maximum possible thrust out of the motor. cgi.ebay.com.au/Hobbywing-ESC-Pentium-40A-Brushless-Aircraft-Heli-/160531276452?pt=AU_Toys_Hobbies_Radio_Controlled_Vehicles&hash=item256068e2a4 or hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2165It's also worth getting an ESC programming card, it will work with HobbyWing or Plush speed controllers: hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2169flydiver actually pointed out a really good 40a speed controller a little while ago and it's really cheap. www.targethobby.com/hobbywing-pentium-40a-brushless-controller-p-4161891.htmlIf you're are setting it up for a high power application with a 40a speed controller, then you'll need 2200mah 25C batteries, not 20C. hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7636You don't have to get those motors from hobbyking either, you can get the same motors here plus2city.com/plus2store/goods.php?id=824 and here www.giantcod.co.uk/xyh3536-1100kv-brushless-outrunner-p-402742.htmlHobbyking aren't that good for the spare parts for these motors, so you're better off getting any spares (motor shafts or prof shafts) from one of the two places listed above. Before you go ahead with all this good stuff, you need to ask yourself if you want a plane or a rocket? If you put all this high powered stuff in a super cub it's going to be a terrible trainer, it's likely that you'd either have the thing fly off on you or crash into a million pieces. If you're fairly new to flying then I'd recommend going with the Turnigy 35-30 motor and a 9 inch prop, then if you want more power later on you can just put on a bigger prop on it. The 35-30 with a big prop puts out more power than my new 35-36 motor does with a small prop, and my motor absolutely screams with the small prop on it! If you get the 35-30, you will only need a 30A speed controller (although you can always use a bigger one if you want to). Are you planning on putting ailerons or flaps on it?

I wouldn't bother with that aileron kit, you can buy those items yourself individually and it won't cost you half that much. Just buy a couple of extra servos for your cub, extension leads and a Y-harness from hobbyking, and you can get the rest from your local hobby shop. You just need a couple of extra supercub pushrods, and get some little dubro control horns, some dubro hinge tape (much easier to install than hinges) and some dubro E/Z connectors so you don't have to bend Z-bends into the control horns.
For the 35-30, I would recommend the MAS 9x6, the 9x5.5 and the 10x5. APC-E style props will probably be more efficient, but will break more easily too.

i just put the turnigy 3536c in my pz t28... the logical thing for me to do was to put the t28 motor in my super cub.
I just had to buy the motor mount for the pz p51, take a hacksaw to the front of my stock sc mount leaving only the top of the screw holes, file it flat to the screw tops, line up some new holes in the p51 mount put the long screws thru it and the old mount, trim the top edge and bore out the cowling a little, and finally move cowling out about 1/8". now the cub is like a rocket and seems to clime a little at full power, i think i am a little tail heavy. nonetheless a great mod, made it feel like a new plane.

can you post pics mythodical? I'm particularly interested in how you managed to moving the cowling outwards.

not set up for pics here but all i had to do is make new holes in the cowling 1/8" toward the firewall from the existing holes (just try to keep them strait)

now that i think about the p51 mount will work for the 3536c motor as well, just make two more holes outward on the long side and use longer screws and add 1/8 " ply between the p51 mount and the sawed off sc mount, and at $4.00 for the p51 mount its a steal!
