As I mentioned in a previous post I have recently changed my electrics out to 2.4ghz and when testing the setup in the plane burnt out the turnigy brushed esc, which I replaced.
I took my cub out at the weekend locally and with the wing at the correct orientation ;D attempted a hand launch. No joy it just simply had no power, the motor was working but even in my hand when I went wot there wasnt much pull, I launched anyway thinking that after hearing and seeing the brushless motor working earlier in the day that I was imagining the power loss.
Anyway the plane just went straight to the ground, in my immediate panic to check for damage I left it wot for a couple of seconds. I turned the throttle off but when I arrived at the plane a few feet in front could smell that disgusting burnt out esc smell, I picked it up and tried the throttle but it worked, I then gave it wot again which it took a few secs to respond to, I heard and felt the engine burst up to full speed for a couple of secs, then it cut right back for a couple of secs then burst into life again. I have checked all the solder joints and all appear fine.
So my question is do you think its a faulty motor or esc or possibly anything else?
I dont intend buying another brushed esc, I will be fitting the brushless motor later tonight/tomorrow morning.
Im glad to know that with that beast on board, when I go to meet that club tomorrow at their field, I will have an experienced rc pilot next to me I can hand the box too!
The motor is fully bench tested with esc etc so it is a matter for the best part of just swapping it all. I have the Custom RC mount and picked up some thread lock this afternoon. The hardest bit I foresee is going to be enlarging the propshaft hole in the cowl and keeping it nice and round.
As much as I dont intend doing anything with the stock motor I am still interested in hearing feedback.
Thanks, John
