Hi all, new user here, although I've been reading the forum a few weeks!
I took my SC LP out for the first time today. All was going well until I brought it closer to Earth to try a landing when it suddenly took a nose-dive from about 15ft into long grass.
Being a novice it took me a few seconds to remember to turn off the throttle. When I got to the plane, there was a little smoke coming from the nose cowl and it smelled of burning. The motor did not work again, although the rudder and elevator still worked.
So, have I burned out my motor beyond repair? Am I likely to need to order any other parts as well?

It's more likely you burned out the ESC/RX, but you could have done both. A stalled motor creates a direct short and amp draw goes through the roof.
Disconnect the motor wires from the internal plugs. Connect them across an ordinary D-cell. If it runs it may be OK and the RX/ESC (black box) is shot.

Although by different circumstances, I did the same thing as yourself. And I fried the ESC.. if you pull it out, you'll likely see it's melted and the circuit board inside is fried.
Mine was fried in a "full throttle" situation.. so at least I could still fly it while awaiting delivery of a new ESC/RX.
What an awful smell too! At least it's an easy fix.

Yes, the circuit board has burn marks on it and the motor also smells pretty bad!
Now to find the parts in the UK, many websites are saying out of stock on the ESC
Thanks for the advice guys

Out of stock parts, especially the ESC seems to be a big problem since the move to lipo. It is being pushed MUCH harder, has not been improved to cope with a 30% power jump, and I think burns up much more easily as a consequence. I also think there has been a decided drop in QA.

My cub disappeared into someones backyard after a nasty death spin and I had the genius idea to find the cub by hitting the throttle and listening for it as I walked around the block where I lost it. The place where the prop mounts over the nut became totally stripped, as well as frying a capacitor in the esc. (surprisingly, the only damage from the crash itself was a broken gearbox)

I've found that back when I had my stock setup, I could find my lost cub by pulsing the throttle between 0% and about 15% once every 5 seconds, thus getting it to make that beep noise. If you were to hold the throttle on while the prop was unable to spin however, you'd most likely burn out the ESC and / or motor.

Squadronleader.co.uk tends to have most parts for the SC, as do wonderlandmodels.co.uk.
