Myself and a mate shared the cost of six planes that were offered to us for a fantastic price that we could not refuse. The models are secondhand. They have all been fitted out with motors, esc's and servos. We also got a couple of lipo packs. here they are. Hangar 9 Taylorcraft, Eflite Stearman, Hyperion Chipmunk, Extra 300, Eflite Neuport and a JPerkins mini Tiger moth. Yesterday we flew the Eflite Stearman. This is a beautiful plane to fly and look at. Sorry about the size of these pics, I cannot seem to work out why they are not reducing.

Wow Paul, that's a lovely collection. The Stearman looks beautiful, nice details. Looking at the set, the Taylorcraft must be pretty big, and the Neuport and Tiger Moth pretty small. Could you take a couple of snaps of the two little ones, I'd like to see what sort of detail they have. I bet the person y ou bought these for was very sad to let them go. I'm not sure if it's the same make, but a couple of lads I've met at the field had chipmunks and both suffered with the firewall coming away in flight due to the manufacturer not gluing them very well. It may be worth checking before you get yours airborne.

I know I'm not the only one thinking it, and I would really like to know....sooooooo...
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you guys have to pay for these beautiful planes?
And is the Taylor-craft Gas or Electric?

Hi Legot. The Taylorcraft is electric. She is fitted with a Eflite power 110 motor and a HV 85amp esc which will be powered by a 8s lipo. Here is the story on the planes. I will try to keep it short My mates wife went to a local farm to buy some produce while she was in the farm shop she noticed a plane hanging up on the wall and mentioned that her husband had a similar plane. He said that he had a small runway out in his 18 acre field and if her husband wanted to fly there he would be more than welcome. Once we heard this we were down there like a shot. He showed us the strip and it was perfect. He asked us what we flew and told him that all our planes are electric. He then asked us if we would be interested in some planes that were left to him by his life long friend and fellow flyer who had passed away 18 months ago. We asked why he did not want to keep them and fly. He said that electric confused him and he was happy with his cub that has a fuel engine. Now all the planes still had there receipts attached to the manuals and it was adding up to a vast amount. we asked what he would like for them and he amazed us by replying £400, which he will donate to the Red Cross charity. He also wants us to go back to his field to maiden the Hangar 9 as part of the deal. We actually refused and said that he could probably get twice as much or more if he advertised them on the net or got a hobbyshop to sell them for him. He was not interested and the rest is history.

@ Nick. Thanks for the heads up on the motor mount. We checked it out and all is good. The Chippie is a Hyperion 70e 60inch wingspan. Between showerss this evening we got her in the air and this plane also performed faultlessly. Here is the only close up pic of the smaller planes I have. Hopefully I will get more tomorrow.

Of course its just a bunch of planes but the warmth and generosity this man showed was wonderful. The farmer (his name is Ian by the way) is 82 and his mate was 91. These guys spent hours together out on the strip and I think he wants to have some company out on the strip and to see his old mates planes fly again.

SCC I can't vouch for everyone else but I could feel the warmth of that story. That really is amazing.

Paul, thanks for posting the pictures and the tale behind these, very heart warming. I'd assume that you and your friend will be using Ian's strip on a regular basis as it sounds great and it'll be nice to give the chap some happy memories of his friend when he sees these in the air. The two little birds look lovely too, great details. I found the Neuport on E-flite's site listed as 34.5" WS. That's a bit bigger than I thought, although they still list it as an indoor flyer. Does Ian have a suitable barn/shed for the little ones?

Thanks skivit48. Hi Nick We will be going down to his strip on a regular basis. Its very local for us. He does have a barn but that's full of old machinery and hay. We will give the small ones a go on very calm days. We got the Chipmunk in the air yesterday evening between the showers. This plane does fly on rails. Our plan is to fly the bigger models down at the club just to make sure all is OK. Then we will get down to the farm. Cheers Paul
