i just got my setup from hobby king everthing is good ,but it seems to be to tight or something.
it does all the beeping and stuff ,but when i give it throttle it just turns kinda jerky and vibrates like it stuck or something, and when i turn it with my hand it does seem to click or be hard to turn..anyone know of some instructions???

Motors that do the 'herky-jerky' may indicate a bad connection or broken wire. This can include bad soldering on bullet connectors.
If the motor is hard to turn and it seems like a mechanical binding, not merely magnetic attraction, there could be a lose magnet or something inside (metal crap attracted to the magnets).
Yes, cheap stuff from HK (or other sites) can come like that out of the box.
Which motor/ESC did you get?

I was afraid so, my least favorite. The Mag8 is a poor ESC with lousy throttle response and hard to program. The TP motor is dead about 10-20% of the time out of the box with broken wires. They are very fine, fragile, and poorly secured. Broken wires will cause your problem. If you go get it going it is easy to break them. Very soft shaft, weak bearings, substandard efficiency. Read the FULL ratings below the link. Look for the critical statements. There are plenty. Unless you know how to replace or straighten shafts you should buy these motors by the 6-pack. The floppy unsupported 3mm shaft will make you appreciate the 4mm supported shaft of the Cub. Best bet, try a known good ESC to rule that out, and the reverse. BUT - be careful. A motor with a broken wire (short) WILL fry a perfectly good ESC in a short time. If it doesn't run RIGHT AWAY, don't force it. If you've been trying to force it they both could be shot now. At least from Jeff you get some service. Don't expect much from HK. Look at post #8 for sure. |

Yeah, not exactly what you want to hear about an eagerly awaited purchase.
I wish people would stop suggesting those combos.
When they work you are pretty happy. When they don't work, it's a bummer. Now you are out the price of that product and got to get something more reliable to boot. Not fun.

well i got the little washer out of the motor..and it does run 1 time backwards ..then the herky jerky again...

Little washer? INSIDE? Not on the shaft?
That would not be good. Trying to run it would make it grind and jam. That would be another source of scraping the insulation off the winding wires and causing a short.
EVERYONE - Do not store motors in a big old box or bag. Those are STRONG magnets. They WILL attract every little bit of metal in short range and it WILL go inside the motor.

I keep mine in separate zip lock bags with chunk of tap with relevant FAQ on the side.
Figure a method out and use it.

it was one of the little washers that goes on the mount ..i thought i dropped it but when i couldnt find it i knew it was in there

I did that once. Ruined the motor getting it out since I didn't know squat about getting it apart. That's why I keep them in zip locks.
If I sound like I'm bashing TP motors and ESC....well, I am. TP was my first foray into brushless, like a lot of folks. My first TP motor lasted maybe 20 minute of air time before it lawn darted to death (ya, sure, my fault). So, I bought 4 next time. 1 was DOA. Jeff at HeadsUPRC replaced it immediately and without issue along with the dead TP 9gm servo.
I have the tools and the ability to straighten bent shafts. I found I was doing it almost every outing, even those I didn't crash, just a prop strike. That was before I learned about prop savers. The shaft really is very soft.
Then I tried to learn to stick program a Mag8 ESC. Uggh. I can do it, but compared to card or PC programming it is a royal pain. I've got a Mag8 I use for testing suspect motors, that way I don't care if it croaks. Dang thing keeps losing the settings I programmed in to it. They just aren't very good.
So, after me and 2 newbie buddies went through our TP phase (short and disheartening for the most part) we swore those off and went on to less frustrating things. Lord knows I'm cheap, but I try not to be stupid cheap. I look for a good value which is a price that I can LIVE with.

well i was bound and determined, i looked everywhere for some instruction ..i found a vid from grayson hobby how to solder the bullets on thgere ..so i went through the whole thing and re soldered all the connections.. and by god it works ..i hate this thing ..but i just now got it to go...yippy

well , i dont think the thing has as much power as the stock cub lp..it works but nothing phenonminal.. it was very depressing//i mean i hear all the time that brushless this and esc that ..its a powerpro 2409 ..any body know how to make it scream?? with the lipo that comes w/the sclp?

Watts is watts. The SC/lipo/9x6 is ~ a 13W package. That TP IF you are using a 9x6 is ~ a 14W package. Not a lot different. You may want to do some reading here and try some different props: www.headsuprc.com/servlet/the-1416/2409-dsh-18T--Outrunner-Brushless/DetailYou should be able to get that up in the high teens and have some reasonable performance. Info on HK and most of their specs should be considered suspect until proven otherwise. Half the time they send props with those combos that are guaranteed to burn out the motor. Do NOT expect a miracle or improved flight times. The TP motors if anything are less efficient than the stock system. The stock power plant is just not that bad. |
