Well I’ve been flying the super cub for about 2 months now and I have been considering upgrading to ailerons. The other day I was in my LHS and someone was selling a brand new Hobbico Avistar nitro for a very good deal, so I decided to buy it. I had a instructor lined up for Saturday to maiden but when I got to the field it was way to windy to maiden my new plane. I’ve got some land that I live on so yesterday I mowed a grass runway and decided to take the avistar out and do some taxing to get used to the nitro and new controls. I taxied, then fast taxied, then before I could talk myself out of it I was in the air. Wow! What a great flight. I flew for about 5 minutes then landed back on my grass runway. Took it up for one more 5 minute flight did some inverted flight a few rolls, and then landed successfully. What a great afternoon. Jonathan

It looks like a nice plane, how different was it to flying the SC?

For me it was easier to control having the ailerons but much much much faster than the super cub. Even at 1/2 throttle it felt like I was flying a jet! Lots of fun though.

Actually very reasonable new. Comes with everything you need (motor, tx, etc...) Here is a link www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMU53**&P=7You willl have to copy and paste the link. I can't get the whole link to be clickable. Maybe one of the moderators will fix it.

Thanks mrmugen, I don't know why the rtf link won't work. frazer, I told my wife I wasn't going to fly so she wasn't there with the camera. I wish I had taken some pics now though. I'll have to get some of my new runway. Turned out pretty good flyinghigh, Yes my first nitro and aileron. I love the nitro. Kinda crazy for me to learn ailerons on a plane twice as big as the super cub and 10 times as fast. Oh well it worked out ok ;D

I guess your like the john travolta of Super Cub Club..what with having a runway in your garden!! ;D Now I just need to put up a wind sock and paint some numbers at the end of my runway I paid $15 for a gallon of fuel (15% nitro) You can get it for as cheap as $5 but a gallon goes a long way so I paid a little extra for the better fuel

This is my dream for a next plane and I think the two planes are related. :-) www.hobbico.com:80/airplanes/hcaa12.htmlWish they had a foam version however. A bit pricey for my flying abilities right now, but can still dream. Good luck and looking forward to your pictures. Hig

coogarr , What did you use for your runway ? Did you use base ,asphalt or millings? The reason I am asking is I'm gonna put a runway in on my place also , just looking for different options . Definetly post some pics. Just ordered a T28 and the costal grass in the field might not be "nose wheel friendly"
