hey can any one suggest an inexpensive brushless motor that will be a direct if not close fit to the stock gear box im thinking on going to get the dx6i with the servos and rx for 200.00 and a 20 amp esc for about 20$ not looking too bad but thats a brushed esc but i was thinking yeh if i wanted to go with the brushless i might as well save the hassle and the money and get a brushless with it any suggestions

for brushless you will either have to scrap the whole gearbox and build up a new one or modify the existing shaft by removing the prop shaft to keep the thrust angle. brushless outrunners dont have gears so the entire gearbox isnt necessary...the prop mounts to a shaft embedded directly in the motor. you will need brushless ESC with a brushless motor you cant use brushed ESC and brushless motor theyre incompatible

That link shows a whole page so which ESC you refer to is not certain.
If you are staying brushed the ESC needs to be about 20-25% more than the peak draw of the motor/prop/battery combo. For the brushed Cub with lipo and 10x6 GWS-HD that's about 13A so a 20A is fine. Going to 30A only incurs more weight and price, not more performance.
If you go stock 10x8 with the lipo you potentially push 20A (much of that is just waste heat) so should go 30A ESC. You'll also burn out the motor faster with that prop.

I used a sweet little turnigy outrunner. www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2112 I used the standard SC "gearbox with the shaft cut off" mount, ( the easiest way to maintain thrust angles) with a carved piece of 1 x 2 pine block as a spacer. I had to enlarge the cowl hole a bit, but otherwise, very straightforward. I'm also using the eflite 30 amp ESC and servos out of my Corsair, but its overkill. I'm powering it with a 2200 mah 3s Zippy. I'm not sure what the total thrust is, or the amp draw, but the performance is awesome. I have a wattmeter on order, and will post revised numbers when I have them. I'm swinging a 9 x 7 APC prop, and I can't keep up to the airplane. It can do repeated inside loops at 3/4 throttle for as long as you want. and the verticle is stunning at WOT. The plane is now 4-1/2 oz heavier than stock. It will ROG in 5 feet. An climb at whatever angle you desire. I think I've created a monster. BTW Hobbyking has a cheapo 2.4 ghx 4 channel radio for about 30 bucks, the 6 channel setup is only a few bucks more.
