first off, hey everyone. I just got my first rc plane, a supercub lp, and have been having a blast flying it. However, a friend recently suggested going brushless, and now i have bl fever with a lot of questions as my side affect. I know this is asking a lot from you guys, but any answers are helpful.
STARTING WITH A RTF SUPER CUB IS IT POSSIBLE TO GO BRUSHLESS FOR UNDER $100? IF SO, HOW?
first off what size motor any model recommendations? should the motor be directly connected to the prop or gears in the middle (sorry, don't know too many terms)? any particular mounts you can suggest?
I"m very intimidated by the electronics situation and was wondering if anyone has used the ez-esc? would it be possible to use a parkzone bl receiver with the super cub transmitter?
THANKS GUYS!!!!

Check out what I did: supercubclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=sccgeneral&action=display&thread=1829 There are lots of options and motors to use. I like Heads Up RC because the prices are good, the shipping is only $2 per order, and the products are excellent, their website: www.headsuprc.com/servlet/StoreFront Any questions you can email me directly at acl5280@gmail.com My Super Cub flys fantasic with this set-up! 3530-10 motor+ $23.95 40 amp esc = $32.95 2 standard 9 gram servos= $11.90 11.1v 2250mah 25C lipo battery= $44.95 Right there is: $113.75. You will need a TX/RX. I bought a Spektrum DX6i and installed the 2.4ghz AR6200 rx in mine...that was another $200 or so. Dx6i can be bought used for around $100-$125 AR6200 $60-80 or you could use an AR6100 for around $40

Alright, thanks for the link. Would an e-flite 450 and a 20 amp esc work? Would I get more power from this motor than stock? Can the standard lp battery handle it?

Not possible-you need to replace EVERYTHING to go brushless. Your $170 plane has a $350 upgrade path. This is the big downside to the Cub. You need to start learning to read specs and what they mean: Stock lipo: 11.1V 1350mAh 20C LiPo It is capable of 1.350 AMPS x 20 = 27Amps Personally I don't believe ANYONE's specs and de-rate most electrics by 20%, especially lipos. 27 x .80 = 21.6A The 450 specs:http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/TechnicalSpecs.aspx?ProdID=EFLM1400 Continuous Current: 14A Maximum Burst Current: 18A for 15 seconds So propped right it should be fine but I'd go a little higher on the ESC maybe. More power? Maybe a bit. Read this: supercubclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=batt&thread=1831&page=1The stock motor is not too shabby on 3S. If you are still having 'learning landings' you might re-consider putting a $65 motor up where it's going to get the benefit of your learning curve. The stock TX/RX/ESC combo is very 'notchy'. It only has 5 discrete throttle steps (really poor). The only way to improve that is replace the electrics.

FlyDiver is right on Target!!! Maybe a lil' less than $350 if you buy used. RC Groups is a great place to view used ads: www.rcgroups.com/forums/index.php Now SCROLL down a ways! For me, I really enjoyed flying RC and I knew if I was to continue I would need a good Radio. So I looked at all the multi plane radios, there's JR, Futaba, Spektrum and and others. I bought Spektrum for whatever reason, I guess the price was right and I liked it. I still like my DX6i and maybe even love it ,as it has never given me any problems ever. Ebay is another good source for Radios and RX's.
