im looking to get a couple of LIPOs for my supercub.. but im not sure on where i can get them from. i live in london (uk) and i cant seem to find someone that might stock them.. oor what kind to get. was thinking about 12-1500 mah?
its A because i think ill probably need the extra kick and also because my flight times are laughable atm. i think there is something wrong with the charger... or the way im trying to charge it.... i got my bog standard SC.. only just got it. my flight times are under 5 mins :S i plug the battery into the charger thing and plug the charger into the ciggarette lighter in the car and the light sits on full red.. even though i know i have just run the battery clean... anyone got any advice on either one of these things?

It sounds like your charger is not working correctly, have you tried un-plugging and replugging the battery? It may get it to sense that the battery is not fully charged. Before you leap into Lipo technology, make sure you are fully aware of the potential risks that are involved. As and when you are conversant with this, then I suggest you check www.giantcod.co.uk for lipos and a charger. The prices are more than competitive when compared with other UK sellers. I have a GT-A6 charger from there and have not encountered any problems with it. The LoongMax packs also seem to be very good value and I've yet to read a review (on any forum) where this particular brand is considered not be anything less that good for the price. Anyway, firstly you MUST be aware of the fragility of the technology and the potential dangers associated with it. Only once you are knowledgeable of this, is it worthwhile and safe to do this. there are plenty of links in posts on here that outline the various things to This may sound like scare-mongering, however the hazards that are related to Lipo dictates a certain level of sensibility when handling them. It's not a worthwhile investment if you do not handle these with care.

The LM are good batteries with #$#%# cheap wire balance taps. The break easily with use. Tape them down solidly when new so the part going inside does not get flexed.
I echo what ginginho said about know what you are jumping in to. Think of it like gasoline. Know how to handle it, it's pretty safe. Be stupid, it'll burn your house down.

The latest packs being sent from Giantcod (I know, it doesn't help you or the other US based flyers) have lovely silicone balance leads now and hence do not suffer from this problem. It seems the manufacturer listened to the many complaints about this. Hopefully the suppliers in the US will either have the new style ones, or be getting them in shortly.

Deans are pretty easy to connect up, just make sure you: a) Use a decent wattage iron. Too low and you can melt the connector plastic. b) Always use shrink wrap to ensure no shorting is possible. c) Always keep the polarity the same. A simple mistake to make which can cost dearly in both finance and your health. Giantcod also sell bags of 10 sets for a very competitive price (called deans style Ultra, elsewhere you'd be lucky to get two sets for the price). I use those, not had a problem so far. I'd also recommend as a must one of these: www.giantcod.co.uk/lipo-monitor-cell-p-402943.html?osCsid=909988fb6a8cb147716ce05029bc90d3A very cheap and useful tool to keep tabs on the state of your batteries. You will have probably read on many occasions the advice to get the best charger you can afford, this still stands.

ooh also can you get a wallplug charger or are they all 12v car batt chargers? They are generally 12V. You can get power supplies for a price. Some use an old laptop power supply or an old PC power supply (like me). Much cheaper

would the charger leads come with a deans connector?? thatll make my life easyer deep down im lazy really lol. www.giantcod.co.uk/loong-1300-3s1p-25c35c-lipo-battery-p-402423.html?osCsid=g27221cq23souidkapff4fvgf3 this seems perfect. size reconsit should just fit into the batt box.... how did you guys extend yours to fit the larger lipos? im not so much looking for a massive power boost. i think it needs some but im mostly looking for flight time.. i was thinking getting 2 new batteries and a charger... a bag of the connectors and if you say its a good buy ill grab the cell checker.

That battery would do, if you are using (and planning on continuing for a while) the stock motor and ESC. You could save yourself nearly fiver a pack by getting the 20-30C type which would be able to dump enough current with a 10x6 prop: www.giantcod.co.uk/loong-lipo-battery-1300-3s1p-20c30c-p-259.html?osCsid=g27221cq23souidkapff4fvgf3You probably won't see much of an improvement in flight duration using a 1300mAh pack though. I use the 20C 2250mAh packs, plenty of flight time even on brushless and going nutty. I cut out the top of the battery box and mount the lipos vertically, using a small piece of velco to the battery and to the battery box where the LG axle fits. This just ensures it doesn't move around too much. I flew a new pack not too long ago without the velcro and the battery managed to knock an aileron servo extension lead connection off. Landing was a bit of a challenge The GT chargers come with a stack of leads including a deans one, a JST (used on the 2 cell LM packs) and others. I see they are out of stock atm with Rob apart from the GT-A8 which is a bit dear. They are all popular. A mate has the GT-5 and is just as happy as me with this. For the price, the cell checker is worth getting. Flying lipos is all about not draining them too far. This allows you to easily and quickly check your packs at the field. BTW, I have no connections with GiantCod other than being a very satisfied customer on quite a few occasions.
