Hello,
I bought a Super Cub in January, it hasn't had much use due to the fact that it's always windy over here!
I just put the supplied battery in the Cub because I wanted to run it around my garden. The motor turned a few revolutions and stopped. I took out the battery and refitted it. Tried again and the motor spun a few more times. Then there was a fairly bad burning smell. After removing the batter I took off the wing and the burning seems to have been from the ESC. The servos still work but nothing from the motor.
Would this covered covered under warranty?
Also, is this likely to have damaged the battery or motor in any way?
Appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks,
David

Here goes: Hopefully No, No No prob Seriously now, Hobby Zone customer service is quite good. I wouldn't think electronics are covered, not after a couple of flight much less a couple months but just the fact that they put low end items in the SC means they should expect there to be a higher failure rate. Besides they've got you nibbling as a customer and a little free stuff is likely to set the hook and keep you as a customer. As long as you didn't abuse the plane they might very well replace an ESC/receiver. Send an e mail to: productsupport@horizonhobby.com You probably did not damage the battery or motor in anyway. Battery only supplied power to servos since the ESC/receiver was toast and since the ESC/receiver was toast it couldn't supply any power to the motor. Well that's the non technical side, hopefully someone else can add to it, or correct it. Hope Horizon does good.

I went to the shop this afternoon where I bought the Cub, between tolls and petrol probably a 15 euro round trip! The guy behind the counter said that they didn't have the Super Cub ESC in stock but he had one from Parkzone Mustang. I said I didn't mind if it would work. He said they were the same price and yes it would work. Ehhhh, excuse me...same price??? I asked whether or not the warranty covered the ESC, he said he didn't think so once it had been used. He said he would have to check with a manager and could I come back tomorrow. Jaysus!!!!
Long story short, I got him to check with someone and it was covered under warranty. Unfortunately the Mustang ESC was fixed frequency and it was the wrong one. He's ordering an ESC but does not know how long it will take to arrive.
So much for buying locally!
Cheers,
David

HZ is generally pretty good. OTOH it's issues like this that make people terminally frustrated with their proprietary electronics and dump them for 'real' stuff that is easy to get and more modular.
