Hey guys, Here is a little RC Car stock motor trick to get more speed out of your stock brushed cub motor. Take a new motor (either out of the kit or purchased) that has NOT been run before. Dip it in water to just below the end bell (ensure the end bell is NOT in the water) and connect to a 7.2 battery pack. Run immersed for thirty seconds only. Disconnect and remove from the water. This has created an almost perfect conection between the brushes and the comm. But your not finished yet! Now you need to run the motor for as long as possible at 2Volts (12 - 24hrs is the minimum). Before you start this add a drop of bush oil to either end of the shaft and at regular periods keep adding this oil (you will hear the motor running "rough", use this as a prompt to add more oil). If you can get to them, apply some "Brasso" to the comm while the motor is still running, as this will polish the comm and brush face.
This technique is one of the "black art" tricks we in the RC Car community use to bring a "silver can" brushed motor up to race spec. The results can be amazing in terms of increased speed and efficency. The motor RPM goes up substantially.
I applied this to my Super Cub and it outflys every other "stock" Cub at my local Model Flight Club. However this is in New Zealand and it might work differently for you in the Northern Hemisphere LOL

I flew my Cub with lipo's and stock set up for over a year without a glitch. I did wear out seveal stock motors. With all the power from the lipo, it's really hard not to fly fast. Last month I tore out everthing and changed over to the BL eflight 450, new servo's and DX6i. What a difference and what a blast. I'm still working with finding the right prop, but I'll find something that will work good.

I was using an 11X7 APC but downgraded to a 10X7 and boy that Super Cub scoots with the Park 450, 2200Tenergy LIPO and a 10X7 APC Electric prop. The 10" prop has plenty of thrust and the 7 pitch propels her real fast. I get great flight times too well into the 20's and I am not just meandering about either Wayne

Oh my Oh my what you don't know you're missing if you don't hookup a brushless outrunner on that sucker. Screaming flybys at 70mph, verticals to 500 feet. Don't knock it till you try it buddy!
