I am going to buy an 8 cell elite 1500mah battery. What type of wire i need to select? I am going to switch over to deans connectors so i put the female deans on the battery right? Also should i check the upgrade pack box? Thanks

14awg should be fine, anything bigger is just more weight and a pain to solder.
female on the batt so there is on chance of shorting. and you dont need the upgrade, its more for r/c cars pulling 30+ amps, also i think they only do it for sub-c cells not 2/3a

Alright and I am going to get a new charger too, what charge rate should i charge this pack at?

1.5 amps is good, you can charge faster if in a hurry up to 2.5ish but dont make a habbit of it, the extra heat generated damages the cells. the slower you charge the better, gives the cells a chance to "balance" while charging. when i flew with nihms i used to charge 1.5 at the field and .5-1amp at home.

LASER look in the electronics section I have at least 4 Elite 1500 NIMH 8 cell packs and a Pinnalcle charger for sale. My SC was destroyed and since I went into a different plane I didn't re-build my plane.
I have marked each battery on the end of the cell each time it was used, only one pack has all cell bottoms (8-Flights) marked.
Anyhow take a look, I could save you some money and get you good batteries and for NIMH/NICD a good charger.
