OK so maybe dumb question but... well you know. I am running an E-Flite 15 BL 840KV motor with a 30Amp E-Flite ESC. As the current set-up suggests the recommended battery is either an E-Flite 3200 mAH, 3S, 11.1V, 15C, Li-Po or an E-Flite 3200mAH, 3S, 11.1V, 20C, Li-Po. So what happens if I go to a battery with a much higher mAH and C(draw rate). Can anything be damaged? Is the limited draw rate (C) of the battery a protector of the system or just the battery's limitation to move energy. So for instance an extreme drawing out of the above question, if I use a Elite 5300, 3s, 11.1V, 30C, LiPo will this smoke my plane? I am assuming the answer is no and that the higher draw rates are simply what the pack is capable of delivering upon demand and that this example I give would be acceptable. Thanks for all comments. Your right on track. "C" rating is noting more than how many times the pack's amp rating can be delivered. Ex. A 3200mah (or 3.2a) 15C pack can deliver 3.2x15=48a continuous. another ex. 3200mah 20C= 3.2x20=64a cont.
Nothing will be harmed unless the packs "c" rating x's it's amp rating are too low for your needs. This would cause the lipo to try to put out too much and possible fire issue. Always check to make sure your packs are adequate for the app. Good question man. Glad you asked so others will know....as well as yourself. Hey long time no hear. I remember you from rcu I believe....been a while though.

Great info. Kevin I and sure many others appreciate the clarification you and other more exposed members can provide. I do see the weight and size differences as a consequence of some of these larger packs but the energy these things can hold is amazing, yield awesome flight times for certain. As for the absence yes definitely been a while. As I stated in my reintro the apt. vacating fire and then house build has primarily consumed the last 1 1/2 years of our lives. I am happy and to be moving back into the work of R/C flight, although still at an introductory level she's got wings, makes noise and can fly like a bird. Wayne

Thats right I remember now...the fire thing. I chat with so many folks I forget who's who sometimes...sorry. Glad to hear your back on your feet.....or wings? Yes these big lipo's are great powerhouses. My stryker pack is 3850mah 4s 25c......almost 1500W! over 96a continuous....thats nuts! I love these things and always charge at 1c or less.
