Ok, not looking to go lipo any time soon but would like to get better performance out of the motor. Can someone advised me of where to buy a larger battery and what to order? Thanks!

Ok, today I went to the LHS and picked up the 9.6V 1000mah battery. Hopefully it will perform better than the 8.4V.

www.cheapbatterypacks.comgo to the custom pack builder, pick how ever many cells you want (8) and pick the elite 1500 2/3a cells, brick pack style, 16ga wire will be fine and do your self a huge favor and get it with dean ultra connectors and change everything else over. the small tamyia are problems waiting to get ya. the pack will cost about $22 but you will get an extra cell worth of voltage and 500 mah extra capacity.

B. well any more lipos are about the same price as most nimh and instead of gaining 1.2v you get 2.7v over stock as well as being lighter. but, you need a lipo charger, and a balancer if you want your pack to last perform and be safe.

I personally think a cautionary approach to lipos is reasonable and healthy. There is a LOT, I mean a HUGE LOT to learn about them. Most folks are painfully dense about NiXX and worse on lipos. But the BIG PUSH is to go brushless and lipo. The attractive price makes this even more of a push. The number of questions that the groups (all of them, not just this one) receive along the lines of 'I just got this new lipo/charger/whatever and how do I...... " is just scary. These folks know NOTHING and they literally are playing with small incendiary bombs. They don't know how to rate the, charge them, use them, store them. They really don't know anything but Hobby City is cheap for lipos and chargers. The other aspect to it is crashing. Newbies crash, all the time. Goes with the territory. I've got 2 buddies that went almost straight to lipo (1 did). They ruined ALL their first lipos with crashes. Thankfully the ONLY lipo fires I've seen have been crashes and they've burned nothing down but the plane. Not fun but compared to a car or house it's trivial. Character forming I'd say. Properly handled they are relatively safe. But to handle them properly you should know what you are doing. People 3 weeks and 12 flights into learning on a Cub (arbitrary #'s I picked but you get the drift) certainly do not know what they are doing.

I've read some very scary posts on some heli forums and have to wonder how these people have managed not to cause great harm, either to themselves or property. I don't profess to know all there is to know, but I did a large amount of reading prior to purchasing, charging or flying mine. One thing I've noticed since going Lipo is that I tend to fly a lot more conservatively now. I still have prangs (everyone does) but only as nose overs at landing (excepting the maidening with the inverted elevator servo ), which haven't seemed to have an effect on my Lipo's. They always get physically inspected and voltage checked following a flight, whether smooth landing or nose over.

Ok,
got to fly with the new battery pack. I only noticed a little more power but nothing to get excited about. I'm thinking I won't worry about upgrading this plane (lipo, electronics) since I want to buy a T-28 and should probably spend the funds on it.
