That's nice! I've always had a soft spot for Mustangs.

I'm looking at the Flying Legends Spitfire from dealer in the UK. What can you tell me about the factory motor and ESC in your P-51, since they are the same? Also, what is the diameter of the motor output shaft? Is screwy-looking prop dedicated, or can you use normal type with a Dubro collet spinner? Thanks.

Thanks for the comments guys. Heres a vid of one of my flights. www.vimeo.com/2602786The Mustang is in the repair shop. I think the lipo moved on one of my hand launches and the result was an uncontrollable plane straight into the ground. @ Donaldo. The shaft is 3.17mm which I think is one of the standard sizes in the collet adapters, so no problem with going with a normal type prop. The bl motor and esc are OK. Unfortunately I have had a minor mishap which has bent the prop shaft and it is not obvious how you can replace it If I were to buy the Spit or another Mustang I would get the airframe only and put in my own choice of motor and esc. @ Jason. I have not flown the Art tech so I cannot help there. What I can tell you. The Mustang models that I have flown are more challenging than all the other war birds that I have tried. Here is a 177 page thread on the Art tech. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=680471

Nice flight, looks very realistic. The bl motor and esc are OK. Unfortunately I have had a minor mishap which has bent the prop shaft and it is not obvious how you can replace it If I were to buy the Spit or another Mustang I would get the airframe only and put in my own choice of motor and esc. www.giantcod.co.uk sell all sorts of shafts for B/L motors and I know the KD22xx series are 3.17mm diameter. They are listed in spare & accessories, under B/L motor spares. You'll need to work out what length you need. I use a KD2217 and have a spare shaft at home so could check the length if you want. A mate has a KD2213 which is a slightly shorter shaft, again if you let me know what you require, we can see if that's the right length. I've read (but not tried) that the rear of the shaft tends to be heat fitted (or glued) into the bearing. With care, you can normally knock the bent one out with a hole punch. The KD's are also held to the motor body with a grub screw at the other end (half way down the shaft) so it'll be worth checking if this is also there on yours. One other thing, SCC. You mention that next time you'd buy another you'd get an airframe only. Do you know who sells those?

ginginho. Thanks for the info on the shafts.
I bought the Mustang from TJD models. They only have the kit with motor and esc, but the Ripmax site shows that the Spit and Mustang are available without motor and esc. I would ask TJD or BRC who also stock the Flying Legends to order one and hopefully that would not be a problem.

Ah right, yes I saw them listed on Ripmax's site but couldn't find an outlet that stocks em. It seems to be the same with the Phase 3 EF-16, something I'm tempted with if I ever want to try EDFs. As for the KD shaft, the 2217 is 50.5 mm long, has a flat cut that's 3mm long, centred 5mm from one end for mating with the grubb screw. There is then a slot (for c-clip) that's 14mm from the other end.

ginginho I think for the price of these motors I may as well replace the motor. The stock motor has no grub screws so the shaft is probably heat or press fitted. Too much hassle. Cheers Paul

Cheers Paul Paul, if you are thinking of getting one from giantcod, be aware that Rob who runs it is currently having some fun with suppliers and price-rigging. I believe some of his prices are going to drop once he's sorted that out. Nick.
