Why would I need to discharge? This is a nutsload of work just to fly a RC plane?!

admiralev's posting are just confusing you - ignore them. He's got some of it right but some of it wrong. Electricity, as he will admit, is not his strong suit but he's improved enough to be dangerous. We're all still learning here. There are 2 ways to approach this, get a plane, fly, find out there is a bunch of stuff you don't know > go start learning that. You are going at it the other way. In the long run I think you'll find it pays off. But, it IS a lot to absorb. Don't expect to do it all at once. It takes MONTHS. If it WERE simple most people would learn to fly and likely abandon it in a few months. Batteries at first appear simple, then start to look complicated, then you discover lipos and it gets really complicated. You either go with the simple solution (get lipo, get charger, go fly), or the technical/anal/curious lot like me that have to know how everything works. Both are viable-depends on your learning style and goals. For now, fly the Cub, use the batteries and chargers you have, get at least 1 more battery that is just like the one you are getting (maybe an 8-cell but the same general shape). Play with that awhile. Then you'll want/need to know more. I'm one of those guys that learns best with a physical object in my hand and a bit of messing around with it. Then the reading makes more sense. Once you have the Cub, it'll make more sense.

Yes, thought I said so in an earlier post. The AC one will-slowly, but it will. Read the specific instruction in the manual.
