Don't throw out that broken gearbox yet.
I busted my gearbox the other day, and while poking about its internals, i noticed the bearings and shaft were in good shape,
So i glued the unit to a a piece of wood, and . after shimming to correct the angles on the shaft, I epoxied that to a neodynium (spelling) magnet.
I now have a tool to balance props, I install the prop on the balancer, stick it to the side of my filing cabinet, and I can balance my props.
I also found that the polishing wheel I use for bike parts can be used to balance a prop, or polish out sanding marks from balancing.
