ive been looking a lot at his plane latley...read the reviews and the article written in October's FlyRC, and i really have to say that i love this plane. just wondering....although improbable....should it be used as an aileron trainer? i know the t-28 is the safest way to go but i really do love this plane. its set to run power 25 or 32, but would i be able to handle it? my cub skills are excellent...im just looking for something a bit more interesting than a foamy, perhaps taildragger for floats and skis for the winters in chicago ailerons of course.
thanks!

I saw one fly at a fly in this summer. it was a impressive plane. Can't say how hard it was to fly, but it seemed nice and stable.

thanks for the link. ive really been reading up on it. i recently found a new airfield that i think has the space I would need for this plane, which makes me more anxious to pick it up. i was going to go t-28 as a trainer, but now i think i will go ailerons on the cub and perhaps pickup this baby around christmas. ellis posted some good video links that are helpful to the process

That's the same route I took with my E-Flite Pawnee. Flew the cub for 6 months slowly modifying it as I went along: wheels, floats, 2.4ghz, ailerons, and just a few weeks ago, brushless. Just like you with the Beaver, I fell in love with the ugly Pawnee. I bought it over the summer and had a successful 1st, 2nd, 3rd flight. It wasn't until the 4th flight that I stalled turning into final. The wing tucked under and spun in. I stopped the spin and started to pull out of it but ran out of airspace. The landing gear and the wing joiner broke when it hit the ground. It was an easy fix though. Since then, I've bought the e-flite pitts and taylorcraft and fly them regularly at the club field.
I say go for it, just remember that it's going to be much much much faster than the cub, much much much heavier, and the consequences of doing something wrong is much higher than flying the cub.

I think that depends on the power plant. The one I saw was a very elegant slow flyer, not much faster the the SC. At least the pilot could fly it that slow anyway. Another one I saw was the great Planes Catalina, very nice gracefull bird, and flies as slow as the SC too.

its officially settled...i ordered this pup. ;D im gonna put it together and admire it in my shop for awhile before outfitting it with the power 32 i decided on and taking it out for a maiden, which probably wont be until after the 1st of the year. i met a guy at my club that had 1 and i sweet talked him into allowing me to use it with a buddy-box. after flying my buddy's for the next couple of weekends (perhaps not if these 30 temps keep up) i think i will be comfortable. the power 32 doesnt handle much differently than the cub...it's just much much faster. you need a lot more room to fly this thing. i will get some pictures up once its in my hands.
im so excited!

i only got the plane right now. i need to take a look at it and see exactly what i need. i dont like ordering parts off a suggestion guide and then have them not be correct. this is my plan: plane - $230 power 32 - $90 60 amp switching BEC ESC - $85 servos (not sure yet) - around $70 Berg 7 CH. RX - $50 4S 3300 mah Zippy Lipo - $60 total damage - $585 hopefully it'll be worth it

Sounds great !! For some that have been flying for years or decades it might not seem like as big a deal, but to me who's someone relatively new to RC airplanes like you I think, I'd call that "all in" and I like it. ;D

Glad to hear you went for it. It is a much faster plane than meets the eye at first. I built one this summer for a pal at our club. Got to see his maiden crash too.....not my fault...his...lol. The build was easy and fast compared to many others I have built. He also went with the power 32, a CC esc, I believe it was 225mg servo's and a 3300mah 4s TP extreme with a spektrum rx. Nice looking plane with a thin chord IMO. The wing is narrow compared to the real thing. But it does fly fast and graceful once trimmed and set.
