My next project is a new Cub airframe with a Park 480, HS-81 servos w/ ailerons & flaps mod. I have an Exceed RC 30A ESC, anybody have any problems with these or heard of any? (I'll use it for the Slo-V if it might be flaky) I'll be trying a plexiglass window mod also - hope that's not a fiasco. Also looking for good landing gear ideas that will fit.

ellis, i did a window cutout mod. its currently posted in the general discussion forum. theres some good pics in there of the work in progress and the final result. should help supercubclub.proboards78.com/index.cgi?board=sccgeneral&action=display&thread=1600all i had to do was use a #11 blade to cut out the windows (i cut the back one a little bit shorter than the decals show for reinforcement). i then took a sheet of balsa, put it over the windows to trace the outline, cut out the holes, and mounted it inside the battery bay with epoxy. fits perfectly, although the balsa reinforcements take away some of the room you have to access the bay. i would recommend getting servos no larger than the stock parkzones, as my balsa just fit in next to them (i think i used quarter inch thick). i did not cover mine with plexiglass and did not cut out the front window. you would be surprised how thick it is since ive done the mod ive had no problems. the windows are just as strong as they were before and support the wing well. ive had some really bad crashes (that 300 foot fall on my RX failure) and it has survived everything. no busted foam. hope this helps admiral

I forgot that you did that admiral...looks great! I'm going to try fabricating a plastic/plexi window that wraps around in one piece, then add vertical window dividers for looks. Maybe find an action figure for the pilot.
I'll try it before I take a hacksaw to the fuse though. It'll be a fun fall/winter project.

I feel like I spend more time dissecting the Cub and piecing it back together than flying it. Looks like you have the same problem. Are you going to get a complete new package or just a spare fuse/tail/gear and use your current wing?

Are you going to get a complete new package or just a spare fuse/tail/gear and use your current wing? No, my USCG cub with the new Park 450 mod is still intact. I was still using the original prop before the mod. I did crack the cowl though. I have everything I need for the 480 cub except the LG. It'll be interesting to see the difference in motors - although the 480 will be heavier. A drop bay would be cool also.

So did you buy a new HZ Cub or get a kit?

I bought the fuse, wing, tail, cowl at HobbyZone. Picked the NIB 480 for $55 at RC Groups and everything else at various online shops. The shipping adds up big-time, but I'm about 100 miles from my LHS. Picked up some plexi-glass today - I'll see if it'll bend to my will. Did you get yours back up? I may make my RX so the antenna ens sticks out a bit from the bottom of the fuse - just an idea I had. Ellis

Yeah, I sprang for the adapter. I thought I'd be able to use a car charger but it (the CellPro) said to current wasn't steady enough. I haven't been charging the batteries from the car, because the beach is so close to home I usually just run through two batteries and come home. are you gonna sell your 6200, or is it dust?

Where are you getting your DC power from if not your car? The 6200 is currently at Horizonhobby for what should hopefully be a replacement. at this point i've promised a local from my club that he could take the new Dx6i off my hands for $20 off retail. hopefully they end up giving me one. if your getting a new RX for your new setup i wouldnt go with the 6200 anyway...unless your brave enough to comquer my problem.

I thought I'd be able to use a car charger but it (the CellPro) said to current wasn't steady enough. For those contemplating using auto (lead-acid) chargers as power supplies, don't do it. Very 'dirty' electricity, not suitable for chargers. fly

Running the charger off a battery is fine, in fact they give you clips to attach to the terminals. Battery chargers are not a constant voltage - fortunately the CellPro is smart enough to keep me from screwing things up. Thus I like the CellPro...

fly cant you use your cigarette lighter DC outlet in your car with the adapter for the cellpro? Probably-never tried it as it's easy to pop the hood and clip it on. The lighter is another adapter and the lipo is now charging inside your car unless you get a long extension. I wouldn't bother. Another BTW-I think it best not to run the car to charge the car battery while charging lipos. The alternator may be making erratic juice also. Battery may filter this out, not sure. I've read conflicting reports. I don't. Generally this is a non-issue since the car battery is HUGE compared to what we are charging unless you are there all day and throwing a lot of big lipos at it. In that case you should consider a field battery. fly

so why would one even buy the adapter then and not just use the alligator clips?
