I tried using a 7.4 1329 mah Battery and it didn't work. It operated the Rudder and elevator but not the engine. That is because the cut off w/o jumper is 8.8 v. I wonder now would it work with the jumper in place?

If you pull the jumper it tries to protect what it assumes is a 3-cell lipo. If you put the jumper back it thinks a NiMh is on board and LVC will be set to something like 5v so it'll work.
BUT-the LVC now is low for a 2S lipo so there is increased potential for damage due to excess discharge if you fly too long. Do not discharge below 3v/cell (loaded). You can ONLY see that while under power. Resting voltage is not a good indicator of remaining capacity. The following chart is an approximation of RESTING voltage per cell borrowed from another RC member:
4.20v = 100% 4.03v = 76% 3.86v = 52% 3.83v = 42% 3.79v = 30% 3.70v = 11% 3.6?v = 0%
