Completing the BL mod I decided to mount my lipo a little differently than I've seen anywhere.
I cut plastic restraints that held the original esc off leaving the top of the original esc tray even. In the tray I epoxied two pieces of 1/8" balsa which fit nicely. I epoxied a piece of velcro under the firewall hole where the battery/esc wires exit, my esc lays beside the BL 450 where it will get plenty of air so the esc wire travels with the battery wires, and a piece on the balsa at the far end. I epoxied a matching piece onto the end and back of the battery which makes it easy to install and remove. The battery gets a firm grip this way. The battery lays horizontal on the balsa. This way there is not a complicated battery box mod to get the battery into this area. It makes a clean installation. It also does not create a problem with CG as the lipo lays directly over the area the NIMh battery was in the battery box.

Hi The way I read it you must remove the wing to chang batt ? Or am I missing something ? Even at that sounds good ,unless you are still running struts . Jerry

Yes, I do have to remove the wing to replace the battery. I am using struts but use a velcro pad on the fuse end to attach to matching pads on the struts just behind the battery box. It is a surprisingly strong attachment. I use struts, although I don't have to as I have installed a CF rod in the wing, just in case.
scc,
Exactly, except I did all the work internally and did not remove the battery box. My fingers are too big to get down into the ebay to cinch the velcro strap around the battery effectively but yours looks to be a good fix also.

You've removed the battery box which had ventilation slots in it and covered the holes underneath the control rods. The electronics/battery will need some cooling. swimmer

it should be ok, and if not i can rig something up through the side of the fuse to get some air in there, but i dont think it will be a problem

i just ran down to the LHS and picked up some balsa to reinforce the entire interior bay to keep the area around the windows strong for the wing, i will start a new thread and get some picks when im finished
