Hey everyone,
I need to buy a soldering iron and I have no idea what I need. Can anyone recommend what I should use just to be able to solder connectors on my batteries and things like that. I have no idea what watts I need and I also want a decent one, so it lasts a bit, not the cheapest one or the most expensive. Im sure you know what I mean.
Thank You

Well usually you can get them at dollar stores for 5 bucks and they are just fine. I bought all mine at radio shack for around 10 bucks a piece. A good 30w iron will do you fine. If you plan to do lots of soldering in your r/c career a soldering station is a must have and I wish I bought mine years back. It is digitally set to what ever I want it to. From 100C-800C and it came with like 20 tips and a stand for 60 bucks. I now have 6 irons that never get used and one kick butt station. You can find cheaper staions too on the bay. Check them out. If you need help looking for a good deal just say so and I will help.

I can't really afford a nice Weller station, but I could do $60.

I found it on ebay. It only says TMC model 08-1000D. It came with a bunch of extra tips which I have never needed yet.....and I am the soldering guy at our club. Usually solder about 20-30 times a week for personal and others use. I can post a pic if you want.

I found it on E-Bay. Strange that the seller is selling two of these at two different prices. $69 and $79. I may order one.
How long does it take to heat up? Also is the temp of the tip pretty constant. The iron I have now the tip will cool off when I wipe it down.

It takes about a minute to heat up to 300C. The temp is very constant. I am sure you won't be disappointed.

I got it with 2 handles. Never needed the second one yet....not sure why I would. I suppose it is nice though....just in case. Don;t have to worry about finding replacement part that way.
