I received my Park 450 today and 20-amp ESC -both used. I have my TX but not my RX yet. Is there a way to test the motor before I get the RX?

Not that I know for function. There are some things you can do with a drill and a voltmeter to check out if there are winding problems (shorts). If you just want to see if it runs you'll have to wait. You know to NOT use a battery directly to try to drive it? It'll fry since there are no brushes.

Thanks Fly,
I was tempted to hook it to the battery - thanks for the heads up!

Yes do yourself a favor and wait. Good chance there is nothing wrong with them. BL motors are pretty maintence free. If they don't smell like smoke..... you still have some. Everything electronic runs on smoke....once you let it out.....it's dead.

It works! It works! Funny thing though. I was having big trouble binding the ^#@!@ thing and after reading the manual and RX instructions many times I was starting to get worried-NO BLINKING LIGHT!! Then a light bulb went off (figuratively) and I turned the ESC plug around on the RX and BINGO. ;D The plugs fit both ways but nothing said what way it needed to go...hmm and grrr.
The HS-81, fuse and wing, cables and horns are on the way. Need some advice on lipo brands though. I'll probably start off with one 3-S 2100mAh. Something reasonably priced that's not a POS. ( Flydiver I think I read where you talked about this and maybe it wasn't even in the bat section).

Well, there's always the Zippy's from the loathsome hobby city. They've pretty much replaced the Loong Max. I've been using the cheap ABF 2200 as an experiment. I've been doing OK but am easy on batteries and the results from others have been variable. Trouble is there is no way to tell for sure if a battery is being used right or abused. Value Hobby is carrying the same brand: www.valuehobby.com/index.phpHeadsUp has some decent prices, has exceptional customer service and has gotten OK feedback about his batteries. No personal experience with the batteries. www.headsuprc.com/servlet/StoreFrontI'm personally leary of no name off-brand lipos from ebay. It's a crap shoot if you are getting a bargain or an expensive lesson. fly

^^ i have an abf 2200 also and its been ok but im only getting 1800-1900 mah out of it if i run the cub wide open (27 amps) for fun. the guys that i fly with are all flying some fast edf's with 4s battery's pulling 60-80 amps and have been having good luck with the zippy packs. they have like 20 packs between them and haven't had any problems yet. i borrow then once in a while and they worked great.
but like flydiver said, watch out for the cheapos on ebay, some are good, some not so much. if it looks to go to be true then it more then likely is.

The ABF is known to be under spec both in C-rating and in size. A number of places are carrying it, some for reasonable and others for double-go figure. Interestingly the Zippy just had a problem where the 2200 were more like 1800. Otherwise they seem to be doing well. Let the next stampede of shoppers muddy those waters.
There's a brand called Fusion that is holding up well. Sold at a number of sites.
I'm amazed ThunderPower is still in business at their prices. OTOH being cheap I'd never buy one and figure out what the 'thrill' was.
