After my last crash (only the 2nd actually ;D) I finaly decided the SC had been through enough and it was time to upgrade. I'm completly redoing the cub, from the LG to the Ailerons. I'll just get this started. The general idea is to go brushless, ailerons, flaps, and some "scale" touches. I've got most of my parts ordered and have started already. I'm starting on the Fuse because I do not have the hinges or servos for the flaps yet, so the wing will come later. First on the fuse was the battery box and landing gear. I fixed the batt box with some 1/8'' ply. I also put 2.75'' foam wheels on it. On the wheels note, the tail wheel has been upgraded to a 1'' rubber wheel. Since the plastic part of the batt box is gone, I added a piece of foam to keep the lipo from moving around in the radio compartment. Still working on the fuse, I'm filling in all the holes and dings with some scrap foam. Here you can see the ACT hole being filled in. Not the best job, but it looks a lot better than a hole. You can also see my first steps in a bomb bay. That is comming next. Comments welcome. There's lots to come!

Adding a bomb-bay (and contents) will through the COG off quite a bit, won't it? Will you add more weight to the front, or do you think you can move the wing back far enough?

admiralev- once you got the pics on photobucket, just click the IMG Code link underneath the picture and past that link into your post.
Snap- I only plan to drop the parachute man and other very light items that shouldn't mess with the CG too much. I'll be able to correct the flight with the sticks until the load is dropped.

Got the motor mounted. Just using the old gear box, some ply, and a coulpe of plastic spacers.

Neat job Fly. What esc and motor are you using? I see you marked out the cabin windows, are you going to cut them out? I see you have a Gerber multi tool. One of the best tools i have in my kit.

Neat job Fly. What esc and motor are you using? 2830-10 swinging GWS 9050 from heads up rc. I got the power up 20amp ESC from him as well. Jeff says that this combo can produce 27 ounces of thrust! ;D I see you marked out the cabin windows, are you going to cut them out? You guessed it! I'm going to cut them out and reinforce the side walls with some thin ply. Should give a cool effect! I see you have a Gerber multi tool. One of the best tools i have in my kit. I couldn't live with out it!

Hey Fly,
Regarding filling in holes and other repairs, have you or anyone else used spray foam insulation? The stuff that expands as it dries.
That motor looks like it could take off and leave your plane still sitting there. ;D Nice...

I like it! That's the way it should look - good job! Are you cutting the front? Did you add the ply already?

I don't think that I am going to cut the front because I am worried about the structural strength. I think that cutting out the front will signifigantly weaken the area. Don't forget this area has to support the wing.
I'll probably just paint the front window black.
Oh, and I haven't added the ply yet.

-But if you cut it out, then cut out some plexiglass, then used a heat gun to shape it...lol Maybe not.
