I am still in the learning process, so meaning, my flights usually end in a crash, and then i have to make repairs. Do I need to discharge my battery everytime this happens?
Also, what is a lipo? Is that short for battery?

NiMh do not have to be discharged. They DO self DC so it's useful to top them off if they sit for more than a day or 2. lipo = lithium polymer battery, like in lots of cell phones and computers. More power, less weight, a bit more (to LOTS more) expensive. Something most people go to eventually but do a LOT of studying before you go there. It's a complicated area. The chargers alone will make your head swim. While you are still in your crashing phase you want to be with a nice steel Nimh to protect it. Here's some basic good reading: www.rcbatteryclinic.com/fly
