I have just changed the controls in my Super Cub over to a DX6i ;D. I am now interested in using a buddy box with the DX6i. The box I am looking at is the JR sport 400. My question is -- Do I need a battery in the JR sport to use it as a buddy box. It is almost as much as the buddy box. I see conflicting answers on the internet. Does any one have first hand experience with this. Thanks -- this thread has been just great for help ;D. Juusto

No personal experience but I can't see why you wouldn't need power. Something has to run it. The buddy cable is just a signal exchange.

One thread on the net said I do, another said I do not. One even said it would NOT work with a battery in the salve. I called Horrizon Hobby and they said I do not need a battery. The cost of the battery and charger double the cost . But before I make the plunge, I thought I would check and see what the actual experiance of some one with a DX6i was .

I did find the JR sport manual on-line ;D and it says that in the trainer mode the slave (JR) must be turned off. I would guess that that means it does not need a battery. I hope that is a correct assumption. I would still be interested if someone has experience with this. I hate to buy a buddy box and then have to send it back. Juusto

I thought I would update. As they say there is good news and bad news. The good news is I was able to buy a JR sport 400 buddy box with battery and charger off ebay for a very good price ;D. The bad news is that it does not work with my DX6i with or with out the battery . I called Horizon Hobbies again and this time the person told me that the sport 400 will NOT work with the DX6i. I'm not sure what the miscommunication was on the first call. I also found a thread from some one with a similar problem that found "It appears that the Spektrum DX6i can act as a master to any JR or Spektrum transmitter EXCEPT the JLine Quattro and JR Sport S400. " I hope that posting my experience will help someone else. Juusto
