I just finished converting my SC over to Lipos after reading many of the posts about the added benefits. I met a couple of local members of our RC Airplane club out flying and one of them offered to do the conversion for me.
I tested it out tonight for about 5 min and I really noticed it climb like crazy under full power. It was too cold and windy to fly much longer than that.
I am hoping use the lipos to help carry up a new Casio 7mp camera. I did some calculations with my battery and camera to figure out how much extra weight I would have to carry.
Stock 7 Cell 147 grams
Thunder power 1320 Mah 84 grams
EVO 25 1800 mah 146 grams
Casio Camera ( with battery) 136 grams
Flycamone 36.8 grams
Garmin Foreunner 201 GPS 78 grams
I plan on using the 1320 mah lipo when caryying the camera so the net weight gain is 147-84= 63 grams savings on battery less the camera of 136 grams = 73 grams net weight gain.
I have carried this much with my gps unit so hopefully the camera will be fine, especially with the extra power.
I tried to make shield for the camera like clippers but all I ended up doing was melting two pieces of acrylic in the oven so I gave up. I ended up using plastic towel hooks taped together and then elasticed to the bottom of the plane. Not sure if it will work but ionce it calms down and warms up I will try it out.
What is the most weight some of you have carried with and without lipos?
