I went through $7 in props this morning, with all the ice on the ground. They really break easily. My bad wanting to fly in such bad conditions. Okay I've looked through several different sites and I've figured out it is a 10" prop but what is the pitch and how do I determine shaft size. Does anyone have info on a stronger prop that will do the job?

I started using a prop saver and haven't broken a prop since. I haven't flown into ice but have come in contact with the snow and ground.

All the tests were done on calm days with stock 8.4V battery!
E-Flite 10 x 8 Electric Prop (1) Item # EFLP1080E Selling Price: $2.49 *I give this prop a 9 because it's the best performer out of the four. This is a direct replacement for the stock upgrade and it is more durable, picture the stock PZ prop on steroids! There is no need to drill but, you may need a extra nut for the shaft. The nut will keep the back edge of the prop from hitting the cowl. Note (E-Flite P-47 Prop) One buck cheaper then stock PZ prop.
Stock PZ 10 x 8 Electric Prop (1) Item # PKZ1005 Selling Price: $3.49 *I give this prop a 8 because it's has good performance for a stock prop. The down side is this prop, it can a will brake a blade easily due to it's cheap and light construction.
E-Flite 10 x 7 Slow Flyer Prop (2) Item # EFLP1070 Selling Price: $3.39 *I give this prop a 7 1/2 because it's has a strong build but, it's in the realm of the stock performance due to the prop pitch of 7. E-Flite props are built stronger then the rest I've tested. Note: Must be drilled!
GWS 10 x 8 Slow Flyer Prop (1) Item # GWSEP1080B Selling Price: $1.50 *I give this prop a 6 1/2 because it has flex issues at higher rpm. This is the black version of the orange GWS prop. Note: Must be Drilled! (The b is added to the end of item # to the orange prop.)

Ive been flying the GWS 10x6 Direct drive orange prop in sub 32 temps, with no real performance issues. At a $1.50 a crack,I'm happy!

I've got the e-flite props on order, thanks guys. oldcaver did you see any reduction in power with a 6 pitch prop. i've seen them at our hobby store and they looked rather flat.

I think Cub owners will want to take a look at this site for a review of props for the Cub with various efficiencies. The stock prop does not come in first in this review. www.ampaviators.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=38&Itemid=27FWIW-I had a stock prop that was so bent (curved) it tried to shake the motor off. At the price they want I'd not buy another one. flydiver

anyone experimented with a 3 or more blade prop? Just curious if there would be any benefits, or if it would be too hard on the plane...

Let me know how the 3 blader goes, eh. I've looked, but all I found would require an adaptor. E-flite carries alot of props but you don't always get pictures which can be frustrating. I found a 3 blader at the local hobby store but the shaft hole was nearly 1/4" dia.

I'm gonna go check it out after work today, see what i can see, the shop here has a very good selection of props, you think 8x6 is the way to go, or should i try some other pitch?

Hey Mizzarty, So I take it the "no dice" meant you couldn't find a fit. The prop may have to be smaller in order for the motor to swing it. I saw on E-flite they have shaft to prop adaptors. Sorry but I haven't tried one yet, so no help there.
