Bigtone, I love your GWS Float explanation posted on ampaviators website. I am getting a pair of floats this weekend and want to ask about the glue you use. You said you used a hot glue gun. Did you use this for all parts of the floats? Do you not recommend using 5 or 30 minute epoxy any where on the floats? Thanks. www.ampaviators.com/articlefloat/

Question: Do you think the floats would preform well landing on snow??
Also: Where is a good site to read up on SC ski's?
Thanks, ConRman

Do you think it needs 2? - or will one due.... 100% handmade - only took about an hour.... The little tab sticking off the shaft toward the back of the rudder will be where the fishing line goes for the retract servo to attach. Trying to find a spring small enough to pull rudder down.. And plan to shape rudder to look like a wipline rudder. Also notice the rear mount.. stock gws rod mounted in balsa ply.. inserts into a notch on the cub where two pieces of ply expoxied are to receive the screws.

Not one drop of water got in. This is my second SC on floats and the first was battered by salthingyter. I've been flying the Sc's on floats off and on, over a year. I forgot to do a prefloat check because, the right float was not even with the left one. All is well, that's why I use the stock 27mhz gear.

Thanks Cubster! No, I don't have the main wheels attached with the floats, only the tailwheel. It would be a lot more work than it's worth considering it only takes 30 seconds to switch to wheels and back. All the parts you need will come with the kit with the exception of a rear mount. You'll have to fabricate one yourself. If you want to set the floats farther apart for more stability, you'll have to get a little creative. Here is the link on Bigtones method. www.ampaviators.com/articlefloat/Since I fitted my cub with ailerons, I kept the floats at stock width. With ailerons, it's easier to avoid tip overs. The floats with the GWS kit come in 4 sections. 2 top and 2 bottom sections. You have to carve the bottom plastic section to fit the top foam section. Once that was all done, I used 30 min epoxy all the way around and let it sit over night to dry. The next morning I put a bead of epoxy around the floats where the two sections meet to waterproof it. For the front mount I used the stock landing gear. For the rear mount, I cut out five 2 inch by 1 inch pieces of a DVD case and epoxied them together like a sandwich to form a block. I cut a slot out of the middle 3 pieces for the rear landing gear wire to slide into. I then used a thin strip of velcro within the slot so the wire can "snap" into the mount. Last but not least, I drilled a 1/16 hole in the mount from front to back for a brass pin I use lock the wire in place. Once all that was done, I just epoxied the mount into the inside of the cub in front of the ventilation holes. It might seem excessive but when I want to change back to wheels, I just pull the brass pin out, pull on the landing gear wire to pop it out of the mount, bend the front landing gear wires together to slide the front of the floats off and I'm done. I'll have a pic of the mount tomorrow. One thing to remember is to mount the plastic holders for the front landing gear 1/2 to 1 inch (towards the rear of the float) from the stock location. This will place the step in the proper location to maintain the planes CoG

Could someone please post up a picture of their cub on floats sitting on a hard surface such as a table or something. I'd like to get a side shot if possible. I just finished my floats and it seems like it might be a little to heavy in the back. It wants to tip back. My COG also moved back about a 1/2 inch from where it was with wheels on it. thanks
